Palemoon 33.5.0: Videos on Reddit.com doesn't play anymore Topic is solved

PaleMoon v33.5.0 on macOS Catalina 10.15.7

In a new browser profile:

1. Open https://old.reddit.com/r/Awww/comments/ ... cat_wasnt/
2. The page loads but the video doesn't and displays a black box.

I could play the video. With Pale Moon 33.5.0 and uBlock Origin with default settings.

Though, I did just realise that this is in Mac OS area, and so anything I experience in Pale Moon is most probably irrelevant since I am running Windows 10, sorry!

Perhaps @dbsoft and the other mac developers can chime in. As the console error points out:

the browser is not able to identify the video format correctly to play it with the right decoder. Video on other sites, like Youtube.com and 9gag.com, plays fine on PM 33.5. I created a new profile to ensure that that the Reddit website loads with the default browser settings, without any extensions. So the problem seems to be with the PM 33.5.0. Previous versions of PM have all worked fine.

Weirdly, youtube.com also shows similar errors in console, but plays the video fines:

No, it doesn't play. When I drag it into PM, the Open / Save dialog window appears. Even if I select Open with Palemoon, PM 33.5.0 keeps opening new tab and displaying the Open / Save dialog window again and again.

The name is "DASH_720.mp4", & it does not want to open in PM, that's odd (to me, at least, but then I know nothing of Mac).

And they say it is a "mpv.app" Document.

So I take it that you have mpv on your system.
Does DASH_720.mp4 (& assuming it is actually a ".mp4" file & not some sort of "document") open in mpv (media) player (or any other media player)?

That's just the macOS way of saying that the default app for that kind of file (.mp4) is the MPV app.

Yes, it does open in MPV media player. It also opens in PM 33.4.1, on the same mac, and plays the video in it when I drag and drop it. (The Open / Save dialog doesn't even pop-up in PM 33.4.1).

Try with a clean profile and see if it works... if it does then it is something wrong with your profile.

The videos all play fine for me with my setup.

Edit: Wait you said it was a new profile? Is a new profile not enabling those media formats?

Edit 2: I just created a fresh profile, launched it... all media except AV1 was checked... it played the reddit link video without problems.

Oh, so it is something rather simple, actually.

Tools | Preferences | Content -> Media (tab) --> Media Formats, you have MP4 unchecked.

Try with a clean profile and see if it works... if it does then it is something wrong with your profile.

I am not really sure, I did the exact same thing with almost the same result, except no error about no decoders on the console and the video plays:

Edit: Only other thing I can think is make sure all NPAPI plugins are disabled...one might be hooking into the video codecs.

That works! Now all the Reddit videos play fine and normal, like in PM 33.4.1
