I'm under windows 8 ; and something bugs me to no end in the task manager : the pourcentage of memory it display seems unrelated to what I should have. Right now, it says I use 56% of it ; while if I sum all process RAM ; it's only about 18% of what I have if I check my system settings. How is this possible ?
(I also wonder what will hapen when I'll use 30% of my RAM and will have my task manager saying it's 100% :? )

Can you make a screenshot?
Anyway you can use the microsoft tool rammap which show you more details.

Keep in mind that Windows, like most other operating systems, will use decent chunks of available ram for caching (disk caching, application caching, etc.) which is memory used because it would otherwise not be, but which can be released immediately when applications need the RAM. Win 8 would call this "Stand-by memory". Also, if task manager does not have the checkbox checked to "Show processes from all users" then you won't see the processes running under the system accounts which can amount for quite a bit.
Resource monitor will also provide you with more details on actual use.

Thanks for the tool ! Its analyzis explains how I go to that usage percent. Basically, the 38% between my processes and RAM used were caused by, well other things than processes.
Even if I still don't really know to what they relate.

See the screenshot attached.
