Difference between PM and Basilisk in handling video
I'm running the latest versions of PM (stable and beta-portable) and the latest version of Basilisk on two basically identical Lenovo S20 workstations.
In the Tools->Preferences->Applications settings for all of six them, the setting for mp4 File is "Always ask".
The video in question is https://www.edu-net.net/media/WigglyWorm.mp4 (WARNING!!! CAT MOVIE with tweaked Star Wars intro)
The result on both machines is identical: When I click on the link in one of the PM versions, the screen turns black, and the video is shown in the "native" video player. When I click on the link in Basilisk, it asks me what to do.
What I'd like is that the movie opens in Basilisk's native video player - if there is one.
Thank you in advance for your help.

JoeyG, I don't have mp4 listed in Tools->Preferences->Applications.
I have these settings shown below in about:config and the video opens automatically in Basilisk.

Actually, I found a way to remove it from that list, but it didn't solve the problem. I'm assuming it has something to do with "mime-types".
I've looked at this thread, but it doesn't help.

So do I, but as I've written, my Basilisk reacts differently.Galaxy wrote:I have these settings shown below in about:config and the video opens automatically in Basilisk.
I've tried it in safe mode, but that didn't help, so it seems it's not an add-on conflict.
With a new profile, though, it worked fine.
If anyone can help with this, it will be much appreciated.

Open about:support in Basilisk. In the Troubleshooting Information, click on 'Open Folder' for the 'Profile Folder'.
Scroll down and right-click on mimeTypes.rdf and select rename. Rename it and then close Basilisk and restart it. Basilisk will recreate the mimeTypes.rdf file with the default settings and hopefully without the mp4 listing.

I've done this, it did what you said, but Basilisk is still asking me what to do with the file.

Re: Difference between PM and Basilisk in handling video
I found it! The behavior was triggered by the fact that the setting "media.play-stand-alone" was set to false.
My sincere thanks to "Galaxy" for the follow-up and effort.
