The usual witch hunt spread by our media. Opera is open source and everybody is free to review the code.
Chrome monoculture is not my beef but for those it is, Opera is still a better option than Edge.
BTW,

Same witch hunt applies to Kaspersky, one of the best if not even the best AV solution, only because it's Russian.

The Chromium base may be open source, but Opera itself is proprietary and closed source.

Where's the problem with china? Because companies like cisco linksys and netgear build backdoors into routers and switches there is no reason to touch the browser code.

It's true. A chinese consortium owns Opera.

https://www.engadget.com/2016/07/18/ope ... 0-million/

And there's no mention of that at Wikipedia. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=21345
As of 2016, Opera's CEO was Lars Boilesen. If Boilesen is still the CEO of Opera, send him an email and ask him if Opera's "browser business" is owned by the Chinese. If you do, you probably won't get an email back from Boilesen, but you just might get an email reply back from their Marketing Department. If so, I think you'll find the information as:

Owner: : Beijing Kunlun Tech Co., Ltd.
Products: Opera web browser
Subsidiaries: : Kunhoo Software LLC;

Same as Google's Chrome. Chrome itself isn't open source either.

Intel might be worth getting mentioned as well. ;)

I just went from W10 v1803 to v1809. Edge says "Microsoft Edge 44.17763.1.0" and "Microsoft EdgeHTML 18.17763." How will I know when it's the Chromium version of Edge? Will that come automatically with the next W10 version, 1903, or whatever it's called?

Can we please keep on-topic?

We don't know when it will be released. I don't think Microsoft is ready to roll out a beta browser on its own OS en masse to millions of users. They'll likely wait for a stable release before doing so. We may be waiting a few months.

However, if you want to get in on the action now, you can check out the preview builds.

EDIT: Oh, wow! It's even coming to MacOS and earlier versions of Windows.

Well, I guess that explains their switch to Chromium--they can end the W10 gatekeeping for this browser.

Thanks, Daikun, but I wasn't implying that I want to run a trial version of the browser. I want to know how will I know when the browser in Edge is the Chromium version? I guess I'll see some kind of announcement in ghacks, but will I be able to tell by looking at the browser that it's the new version? Would MS drop it in just any ol' update or save it for a major OS release? Would MS make an announcement that nobody could miss? Thanks.
