share of browser usage

Unread post by laozi » 2018-11-04, 10:09

Hello,
just and simply a statement without animosity:
evolution and share of browser usage from October 2017 to October 2018:
PaleMoon is in significant decline,
for WW: 0.05% to 0.02% for WW
for the EU: 0.05 to 0.04%.
very, very far from the tenors Chrome (69.64%), FireFox (10.14%), IE, Edge, Opera,....
all the results here:
http://gs.statcounter.com/browser-market-share/desktop/worldwide
http://gs.statcounter.com/browser-market-share/desktop/europe

but the most important thing is to be satisfied with your browser ;)

With the privacy lists generally blocking statcounter as a "tracker" and those being in high use among Pale Moon users, I wouldn't be surprised if blocking is the cause for the decline in statistics.

Our own stats in terms of traffic have not seen a decline at all, rather the opposite, or at most remaining steady.

It does, however as said these kinds of lists are in much higher use here than on, say, Chrome.

I invite you to read the StatCounter statistics method,
there is still a background of truth and of course dissatisfied people always find arguments to counter the real and reassure themselves ! ;)

Off-topic:
I wonder if there is at least one person here on the forum who doesn't use ad blockers?

No idea! Usage fluctuates a little and we've seen a small dip at the end of v27 because the browser simply was struggling to keep up with the web at that time, but with v28 we're stronger than ever -- and we'll see more growth as more people discover us, I'm sure.

OK, let's see how they collect the data:
http://statcounter.com/how-it-works/ wrote:How does StatCounter work?
  1. Sign up for the StatCounter service and we'll give you a tiny piece of HTML and Javascript code to insert into your webpage.
  2. When a visitor visits your webpage with the installed HTML and Javascript code, their anonymous details are sent to StatCounter to be recorded. Their details are gathered either from the counter the visitor loads from StatCounter, or an invisible image depending on your settings. This action takes place instantaneously and the user is completely oblivious and unaffected by it. StatCounter has invested a great deal of time and money to ensure that this load time is instant. The load time experienced by your visitor is monitored daily and we are continually adding more dedicated servers as we grow to ensure instantaneous responses. [emphasis added]
StatCounter will not know that you visited the web page if you prevent that counter script and/or image from loading.

other sites* like "statconter" give identical results at the margin...
so there's no point in finding arguments to invalidate the balance sheets, if PaleMoon were at the top level, all the specialized press would be talking about it!
as I said in my first post, the most important thing is to be satisfied with your browser,
in the end that Chrome, FireFox,... are the most used, I don't give a shit about the "coquillard**"
PalerMoon satisfies me fully
a controversial subject that highlights a lack of objectivity and some blindness
information to be especially not distributed anymore...

The bottom is this. If a person likes a browser above all other browsers, they will use it no matter the usage statistics. I like using Pale Moon in both linux Mint 19 and Windows 7 since I dual boot. To make my point, I started using windows Pale Moon back in the year 2011 and when linux Pale Moon became available, I started using linux Pale Moon back in January of 2014.
Linux Mint 21.3 (Virginia) Xfce w/ Linux Pale Moon, Linux Waterfox, Linux SeaLion, Linux Firefox
MX Linux 23.2 (Libretto) Xfce w/ Linux Pale Moon, Linux Waterfox, Linux SeaLion, Linux Firefox
Linux Debian 12.5 (Bookworm) Xfce w/ Linux Pale Moon, Linux Waterfox, Linux SeaLion, Linux Firefox

In addition to this, even Firefox is filtered out from some bad sniffing routines. 15% of user share or 0.15% is equal in these times, because of Chrome domination.

Speaking of StatCounter, it seems it was hijacked :silent:

So what.
statistics.statistics and more statistics.

what are the "statistics" on people driving say a volvo car for example.?
which model of car is driven by the most people.
(i have driven a volvo car for the past 20 years and that is because i LIKE them.)

Any commodity or product may have higher buying statistics than others but it does not make the lesser products bad.

this post is puzzling and i do not see the point in it.

So, laozi, what is the point then of your topic here? Paint some impression that Pale Moon is dying? what?
