I just came across this on another forum. Not sure what it means, but it sounds like some good news in the computing world for a change. (I mean especially the part about it being completely open-source.)

A lovely board but beyond the reach and technical ability of most of us to put into operation. Does not run any o/s you are likely to use and is not compatible with any of the other major technologies out there. Points to a possible direction for motherboards but not necessarily a realistic one.

I have to say that I don't think $1000 for a board is in any way "low cost". I can build a full system for that which is pretty damn decent all around.

Linux support for major distros is relatively recent, but it's there. And if you're using this board, it's unlikely that you'd want to use Windows on it anyway.Wikipedia wrote:Implementation of POWER9 support in the Linux kernel began with version 4.6 in March 2016.
RHEL, SUSE, Debian GNU/Linux, and CentOS are supported as of August 2018.
Of course, OS support does not equal software support, but it is a start.

Sadly, the CPU price appears to be in the same ballpark as Intel of 3 years ago.
