The funny thing:
The question is to where the request would go. Of course, it would go to search provider site (i.e. DDG), not to the advertisers or NSA or something else.The default search engine is the privacy-respecting DuckDuckGo, however search suggestions are enabled by default, which could send a request for every letter you've typed, all while you think it stays in-browser until you press Enter.

Also, literally any browser that you search with will do this. At least they sort of acknowledge this...
