Strange Video Issue

Unread post by Thehandyman1957 » 2017-12-18, 01:33

So when watching pretty much any video online or otherwise, when the video spans up and down the
video is perfect, just like watching TV. But when the video spans left or right it seems to jig and get choppy.
This of course only seems to happen when the full screen is moving all in the same direction.

Does anybody else get this issue on their computers and if so, have you had any success on smoothing it out?

That sounds like your graphics hardware is being stressed by the resolution you're trying to watch/play at, does it reduce when you lower the video window size?

Well after trying it out, you are correct. When the video is played at 1/2 the size it smooths right out.
If played at full screen it gets choppy and I can see places in the video where it seems to chop little squares
in the video as it moves by. Sad, I thought a 1 gig Nvidia Geforce GT 740 would solve these kind of issues.

Guess I need to upgrade again. Bummer.

A 1GB GT 740 should have a 6-pin power connector, have GDDR5 memory and is a pretty useful all rounder but it's possible that you have a PCI -powered DDR3 version, which would compare quite poorly with a full fat card (GDDR5 memory bandwidth 80GB/sec., cf. DDR3 @ 28).

Playback is also affected by other factors, eg. screen resolution, graphics > screen connection type, CPU, driver version, OS and other software/Services running.

Sadly, you are correct. This card does not have the power port you speak of.

So it's time to find one that does. Sure thank you for your help and will update
when I finally get a good one.

Well, after two long nights of searching I finally found a card I can live with that won't break the bank.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580

I have found a few here under $100 bucks used.
Yea, it's a slightly older card but has awesome specs and for what I do, it will be overkill.

I have to upgrade my power supply but should be able to fix both for around $150.

Hopefully this will fix my issues and even allow me to play some games too. ;)

A GTX 580 competes with the GTX 660. The GTX 660 is a little better than the GTX 750 Ti. The GT 1030 is a like a GTX 750. The GTX 1050 = GTX 950 but 1050 uses less power.
So, a GT 1030 for $70 or a GTX 1050 for $100. Seems like the GTX 1050 is a better deal (around 10fps more than the GTX 660), or GT 1030 is a worthy deal for a little less.

Man, no idea why the 1050 went up in price, refurb at $99 on New Egg.

A 580's getting long in the tooth and requires a good quality, recent design 600W PSU if you want to use it hard.

What CPU and screen resolution do you use?

I have two monitors. My big one is a 1920x1200 NEC 2490wuxi, and my second is a basic jane dell running at 1680x1050

I had a guy at work that was selling his gaming machine and it has a 8 core 4.0mhz processor with a Geforce GTX 750 Ti at 2 gigs of ram
and I really want it to work but I cannot get W7 to recognize my hard drives. Linux see's it no problem and even the bios see's it but
dang it, even when loading the AMD Sata AHCI drivers during install. I even tried just running it on IDE but still no go. :x

If I could just get W7 to recognize the dang drive I would be good to go. I even tried disconnecting all other drives and it still won't see it.

Perhaps one of you have an idea?

What does the AMD 'board use, BIOS or UEFI? If the latter, set it to use BIOS and try one of your drives.

What OS were your drives initially set up on?

It is using the new UEFI and I had tried all three options it gave me. IDE, AHCI, and RAID. Even with the right drivers it still would not work.

But I finally figured it out. Turns out the drive was bad. I was using one he gave me as a tester to get everything ready before I used my ssd out of my other machine.
The weird part was that it worked when I ran it in my other machine and I even formatted it. But for some reason I could not get it to work in this new machine.

So I am now the proud owner of a AMD FX-8350, 8-core 4000mhz processor running on a MSI 970A-G46 motherboard
with 8 gigs of ram and a GTX 750 Ti video card with 2 gigs ram sitting in a white In-win case that only cost me $100 bucks and a Amp probe meter.
IN-Win Case.jpg
This thing simply rocks. My old machine only had a SATA-I storage adapter so my Adata SSD was just putting around.
This one has a SATA-III so it really let's it run like it's supposed to, and things just fly.

Now it's just re-installing everything again. The silly part is, I just went through all of this just a couple of months ago when I decided to upgrade to
W7 and now I'm doing it all over again. But it's truly worth the trouble as it is the best computer I have ever had.

Thanks for following me on this.

Good work; nice rig, good price but the reflected light off that case could be a little distracting until you get used to it ;)

Funny you would see that, actually the case is a bit old so the gloss has rubbed out. So no glare issues.
Besides, it sits under my desk anyway. ;)

In any case(pun intended), the 750Ti gives potential close to the GTX 580 and it doesn't consume a lot of watts, so good on you. Covers most of the modern games, if you want to get some 720p goodness.

The funny part was, this computer cost me less than it would if I had just purchased the video card and power supply I was going to get.
And I was going to purchase those two items that very afternoon after work when my co-worker mentioned he had this one for sale.

While I was having issues with the W7 boot up, I put that card in my computer and wired all the power supply from the new on to my old
computer just to see what it would do. It clearly could not handle that newer card and would stutter every second in anything 3d.

And being that the older card I was thinking of getting consumed even more power than this one, I imagine it would have been
a sad outcome.

I finally got everything loaded and done. So now it's just enjoy time. ;)

So here's a funny thing. After all of this work of moving to a new computer and all new hardware (except monitors, keyboard and mouse)
I tried playing some of my offline videos (Some high def YouTube Roadkill vids and also some 1950's Twilight Zone video's in full screen and was getting the
same issue I had on the other machine (Video tearing and stuttering in full screen) using any player. I was like, what the?? :wtf:

So I did some more digging and finally found a post on a video forum.
https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/367 ... e-635-card

Since I am using PotPlayer as my main video player this finally hit the nail on the head.
Screenshot - 12_27_2017 , 7_20_49 PM.png
It turns out, that my 16:10 NEC 2490WUXi was having issues with playing video's in the output of the player.
For me, using both the Vsync and Exclusive mode fixed all of those issues.

This is a fairly old Monitor but is in beautiful condition and has amazing color quality and I would have been
super bummed if I could not have fixed this.

So I figured I would shoot this out in case anyone else might be having video issues of their own. ;)
