Pale Moon nominated for 2017 JP award

Unread post by Moonchild » 2017-12-08, 12:25

Pale Moon has been nominated for an annual award (decided by vote) in Japan, issued by "Windows Forest"
a popular webzine about Windows online software by Impress Corporation.

This year they have a line-up with Pale Moon among the nominees, and the result is decided by popular vote.

The website is in Japanese only, but I'm pretty sure casting a vote will be straightforward enough even if you don't read japanese ;)
Voting link: https://forest.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/prize/2017/vote.html

Award's schedule is as follows.(Japanese time)
Voting period : 12/8 - 12/19(JST)
Announcement of prize winners : 12/26(JST)

(you won't be eligible for winning a prize for voting if you don't live in Japan, but you can still vote :) )

Hoping to see your votes if you enjoy Pale Moon!

I voted.
When you submit the vote, and you get to the page that asks if you are sure, the button on the left is "send" and the button on the right is "back"

Not sure if it worked. :?
I checked Pale Moon, scrolled the page down and clicked the left button, then got a simple, plain japanese page with only one button to click. Hope it wasn't for the 100 sushi boxes.

I translated the page with S3.Translator on another tab and had no issues. You need to enter an email (two times, for confirmation) and fill most of the questions.

Oops! I just filled all boxes with this "何らかの支障などが発生した場合でも編集部は責任を負い" and it seemed to work... or maybe not after they find out that I didn't wrote an email.

Edit: Fixed with a new entry!

I've a button that translates the page (apparently Chrome has the ability to do this automagically, but that's going too far!), so had no trouble completing the for.
BTW, what the hell is Windows Forest?
Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. Comodo Internet security or Comodo Firewall + Avira Anivirus.

I just checked it with Google Translate. You wrote: "The editorial department is responsible even if any obstacle or the like occurs."

Very interesting outcome, I guess I had it in my mind that this was for browsers only. But the fact it was for a whole
suite of different types of software makes it even better to get this recognition.

Way to go PM. ;)

The gold medal was awarded to a utility that lets you control updates on Windows 10... which just shows how annoying automatic updates are to most people.

Poor enough it needs such an extra control utility, but who cares about Win10...

Sounds like a fine 2017 end for Pale Moon and a good start for 2018, no? :)
Best wishes and a HNY 2018 to devs and all mooners.

This was my biggest issue with Windows 10, mostly because I live in a rural area with slow (384kbit kind of slow) internet, and those partially very large, uncontrollable updates gave me quite a bit of trouble. Using NetLimiter helped some (at least I could throttle the updates), but MS eventually enabled the option to mark Ethernet connections as metered connections. That put an end to nearly all automatic updates and only crucial security updates are downloaded and installed. Huge QoL improvement for me and the reason why I still have Windows on my work machine. Every once in a while I set the connection to normal and catch up, or I download the latest seasonal update and run it.

Anyway! Congratulations to Pale Moon! A well deserved win. :)
