32bit vx 64 bit Pale Moon?
32bit vx 64 bit Pale Moon?
Since updating to W7 64bit I realized today that I only downloaded the 32bit version of PM.
Would I see any difference in using the 64bit edition?

Re: 32bit vx 64 bit Pale Moon?
When I tried Firefox, their 32-bit was always faster than the 64-bit. Yet, 64-bit uses more RAM, is more reliable, could be less crash prone due to the memory availability.
Re: 32bit vx 64 bit Pale Moon?
Sometimes plugins are only available in 32-bit versions, meaning they won't be recognized by the 64-bit version of Pale Moon.Thehandyman1957 wrote:Would I see any difference in using the 64bit edition?
Sometimes 64-bit graphic drivers aren't as stable or as well developed as the 32-bit graphic drivers; in that case you might run into graphical glitches or problems playing media with the 64-bit Pale Moon.
However ... in my own personal experience the 64-bit Pale Moon has worked nicely on the 64-bit Win7 boxes that I ran it on. Your mileage may vary.
EDIT: helloimustbegoing beat me to it.

Re: 32bit vx 64 bit Pale Moon?
I use 64 bit linux Pale Moon in 64 bit linux Mint 18.2 and I use 32 bit windows Pale Moon in 64 bit Windows 7 and I've never had any problems in either linux or windows other than the recently new YouTube design which seems is my only hiccup in both linux and windows Pale Moon.

Re: 32bit vx 64 bit Pale Moon?
I'm assuming that since I have a 64 bit W7 that Flash and Java will still run fine?
Or do I need to reinstall them for 64bit?
Thanks for all the help so far.

Re: 32bit vx 64 bit Pale Moon?
Installing Flash comes with both, I can't say for JAVA 64-bit, but you can install Palemoon 64 and try. It shares the same profile as the 32-bit, so it won't hurt.
Re: 32bit vx 64 bit Pale Moon?
Naturally on a 64-bit OS, all 64-bit software runs slightly faster, because it doesn't have to go through the 32-bit compatibility layer.
Sure Pale Moon's 64-bit builds uses more memory, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing..
Most people has got crazy amounts of RAM installed on their computers these days, so why not take advantage of it?

Re: 32bit vx 64 bit Pale Moon?
I've always used 32 bit windows Pale Moon in my 64 bit Windows 7 hard drives. Just out of habit. My two desktop tower computers have Intel i7 processors in them. One desktop tower has 16 GB of memory and the other has 24 GB of memory.
I think when windows Pale Moon 27.5.0 is released, I think I will give the 64 bit version of Pale Moon a try in both of my desktop tower computers and see how the "test drive" goes.

Re: 32bit vx 64 bit Pale Moon?
Well, no problems for me, seems like it is using the same amount of ram as before. Time will tell.
Re: 32bit vx 64 bit Pale Moon?
AFAIK, by using x64 version, you could optimize Pale Moon to take more memory more than 4 GB.Thehandyman1957 wrote:Since updating to W7 64bit I realized today that I only downloaded the 32bit version of PM.

Loading more and more tabs fast, for sure.
Re: 32bit vx 64 bit Pale Moon?
I install both x86 and x64 plus the "Unstable" (32-bit) build in my Windows 7 (x64).Thehandyman1957 wrote:I'm assuming that since I have a 64 bit W7 that Flash and Java will still run fine?

Re: 32bit vx 64 bit Pale Moon?
I always figure, use an x64 browser on an x64 OS. I find the x64 Pale Moon release stable in Windows, but I can't say if there are any shortcomings on x86.
Re: 32bit vx 64 bit Pale Moon?
Well, it turns out that my most used add-on Print pages to PDF 0.5.0.2.1 is incompatible with PM64bit.
So back to 32bit for me. Sadly, his web page won't load anymore and I'm afraid he may have called it quits
with FF changing to web extensions. This is my most crucial add on and I simply have not been able to find
a replacement for it.
To be honest though, I did not see any difference with the 64bit version anyway so it's not a big loss.

Re: 32bit vx 64 bit Pale Moon?
You could instead install a PDF printer driver that you can use across all your programs, rather than relying on a browser extension. My favorite is PDF Creator, but there's a discussion on several options here: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=12302&p=101122Thehandyman1957 wrote:Well, it turns out that my most used add-on Print pages to PDF 0.5.0.2.1 is incompatible with PM64bit.
So back to 32bit for me.
Forked extensions :
● Add-ons Inspector ● Auto Text Link ● Copy As Plain Text ● Copy Hyperlink Text ● FireFTP button replacement ● gSearch Bar ● Navigation Bar Enhancer ● New Tab Links ● Number Tabs ● Print Preview Button and Keyboard Shortcut 2 ● Scrollbar Search Marker ● Simple Marker ● Tabs To Portfolio ● Update Alert ● Web Developer's Toolbox ● Zap Anything
Hint: If you expect a reply to your PM, allow replies...
Re: 32bit vx 64 bit Pale Moon?
I have tried those and I have Bulzip PDF Creator that does the same thing. But the problem is that PM doesn't always
print web pages correctly. So it works sometimes and other times it doesn't. I have to have something that works all
the time but even Printpagestopdf doesn't always work. So I have three different types just in case one or two gives me trouble.
