Re: And you thought XP is old?
Even old OSes can still be updated. Like the Apple II, for example.

Re: And you thought XP is old?
I've long since sold my old home computer stuff. No need to keep lugging those 8-bit clunkers around.

I still have my PIII/233 and my Athlon XP/1mhz computers. Does these count as vintage now?

Re: And you thought XP is old?
You could still run Windows XP in 2100 (if you have compatible hardware or using virtualization app and the most important thing is that you are still alive on that year).

Re: And you thought XP is old?
Mine still using many old pcs. Recently i asked a pc for internet, only text sites though. Guessing what is better to give out P2-400 or Celleron 466.
Re: And you thought XP is old?
A PII-400 will beat a Celeron 466 any day. By a big margin. Old-school Celerons are terrible.Fedor2 wrote:Mine still using many old pcs. Recently i asked a pc for internet, only text sites though. Guessing what is better to give out P2-400 or Celleron 466.

Re: And you thought XP is old?
I know, there's a user on Youtube who tried putting Windows 8 (and then Windows 10, when it came out) on an old Dell Dimension with a 600MHz Celeron processor.Moonchild wrote:A PII-400 will beat a Celeron 466 any day. Of course it didn't work. It was built for Windows 2000/Windows Me!
Nowadays, anything older than Windows 7 is considered old and anything older than Windows XP is so old it's not really usable - many programs nowadays are dropping support for XP (Pale Moon has as of v27, Chrome has dropped XP support as of v50), but XP is still usable and will always be useful for legacy programs that don't work too well on Windows 7.
Re: And you thought XP is old?
If you have specific programs you need native Win XP for, there is always the option to use virtualbox/vmware/etc. to create a simple virtual machine with, say, 512MB RAM to fire up when you need to run the programs.

Re: And you thought XP is old?
I tried running "Windows XP Mode" on Windows 7, which is basically a Virtual Machine. It was so sluggish that it couldn't even play the Pinball game that comes with XP.Moonchild wrote:If you have specific programs you need native Win XP for, there is always the option to use virtualbox/vmware/etc. to create a simple virtual machine with, say, 512MB RAM to fire up when you need to run the programs.
In the end I went back to using my two XP machines for XP only stuff, or stuff that will not work in windows 7.

Re: And you thought XP is old?
You can't expect a limited VM like that to run a game properly There are much better virtual machines out there that offer proper video acceleration etc.spotify95 wrote:I tried running "Windows XP Mode" on Windows 7
As an aside, I recently upgraded my old netbook (Acer aspire one Atom N450) to Windows 7, and although it boot a little slow, it's happily running the OS even if it wasn't at all designed for anything past XP.
