Does anyone have a nice guide about RAM DISK and Pale Moon?
Title! I would like to use some of my free ram "Which is like 6 GB I have never used" but got no idea how to make it work with Pale Moon.
I have read that I also should put my windows temp folder inside the ram disk, as well as Pale Moon cache; but I don't know how to change Pale Moon cache directory.
Also what's the best free ram disk outhere? Thank you all in advance!

Take a look at my post about ramdisks on The Windows Club Forum: Create a RAMdisk and speed up your Windows computer
It includes instructions for how to move the cache.
Update: I have edited the post and replaced the links.
There are better instructions in the new linked post.

That was helpful, I finally made a static ram disk for Pale Moon cache and local user temp files. Thank you!hackerman1 wrote:viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1505&p=42610&hilit ... ECT#p20855

With Pale Moon Portable you can even install the whole browser on a ramdisk: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=6328#p51389

You don´t need Pale Moon "portable" for that.TELVM wrote:With Pale Moon Portable you can even install the whole browser on a ramdisk: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=6328#p51389
I have the "normal" PM installed on ramdisk.

Re: Does anyone have a nice guide about RAM DISK and Pale Mo
Thank you all I have moved my local user temp files, Pale Moon folder and Pale Moon cache to the Ram Disk.
What is the best for this ramdisk? it is 1024MB Ram Disk and I'm using FAT format, should I change it to FAT32 or NTFS? or should I leave it on FAT? Thank you in advance!.

FAT32 is a tad faster than NTFS, see here.
On the other hand FAT32 can't handle files bigger than 4GB, so for large files on huge ramdisks better to use NTFS.

Re: Does anyone have a nice guide about RAM DISK and Pale Mo
exfat gives better performance than FAT32 when it´s a lot of small files, like the browsercache, on the partition.
And it´s also faster than NTFS.
I´m using 2 ramdisks:
1. Programs (Pale Moon, VLC, PDF-Xchange etc.) (NTFS)
2. Tempfiles and browsercache (exfat)
Using 2 ramdisks as described above you can use compression on disk #1.
Of course the compression / decompression takes time, but since you are using a ramdisk it´s very quick.

I don't have exfat on softperfect ram disk only FAT, FAT32, RAW, and NTFS. I'm using FAT since I think it is faster for temp files?hackerman1 wrote:exfat gives better performance than FAT32 when it´s a lot of small files, like the browsercache, on the partition.

Re: Does anyone have a nice guide about RAM DISK and Pale Mo
According to what i have read exFAT is the best (fastest) fileformat for a disk with a lot of small files like tempfiles and the browsercache.InS4N3 wrote: I don't have exfat on softperfect ram disk only FAT, FAT32, RAW, and NTFS.
I'm using FAT since I think it is faster for temp files ?
But you can try different fileformats and decide for yourself which fileformat gives the best performance.
You can use exFAT as fileformat with a Softperfect ramdisk.
But you will have to use a little trick...
Sorry, I was tired when i posted above, i forgot about explaining how to do it...
How to use exFAT as fileformat with a Softperfect ramdisk
1. Image → Create Image
2. You can not enter a filename directly in "Image File Name", you have to click on the yellow folder-icon,
then navigate to the folder where you want to save the image, enter a filename and click Save.
3. Select size
4. Select RAW as filesystem (default)
5. Click OK
6. Image → Mount Image
7. Select the imagefile you created and click Open
8. Select drive-letter and click OK
9. Open File Explorer, put the mouse-pointer on the drive, wait until it´s "greyed", right-click and select Format
10. Select exFAT
11. Image → Unmount Image, select the drive
12. Click OK
13. Disk → Add Boot Disk
14. Select the imagefile
15. Select drive-letter
14. Click OK
Next time you boot you will have a ramdisk formatted with exFAT.
Note: there is no reboot required, you can start using it immediately, it´s activated when you select to use it as "Boot Disk".

Re: Does anyone have a nice guide about RAM DISK and Pale Mo
There's actually an (old, but still accurate) tutorial here to put your cache on a ramdisk.
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1505
I used this for a few months, but noticed it sometimes caused issues on some sites which needed me to clear the cache, so perhaps it was not 100% reliable/accurate. While I did use it the browser was noticeably faster though.
EDIT: woops, just noticed that hackerman1 linked that same thread but edited it out, leaving it only quoted. Still, my experience with it is how it turned out so I'd only suggest it if you clear cache on exit (or perhaps a different ramdisk program would be more reliable, I used SoftPerfect)

Yes, because the information in that thread is a bit confusing,_Poke_ wrote:There's actually an (old, but still accurate) tutorial here to put your cache on a ramdisk.

Re: Does anyone have a nice guide about RAM DISK and Pale Mo
I tried RAM Disk to make Palemoon start-up faster.
The problem was AdBlock Plus that delayed the browser, same thing for AdBlock Latitude 3.5 BETA. (I even got an SSD and still takes a while to start-up)
Now, seeing the steps, it looks too complicated or too much just to get it running again, hopefully there is an automated program out there.

Yes it was worth the time in my case since I don't have an SSD my regular HDD is slower compared to the RAM DISK. I can notice a great performance boost especially after desktop shows up on windows startup, Pale Moon opens like 1 seg with 17 extensions.megaman wrote:I tried RAM Disk to make Palemoon start-up faster.

PD: ABP was heavy in the past, I remember my Pale Moon startup freezed a lot but I switched to Ublock Origin and it runs light!

RAMDisk is still faster than my Samsung 850 EVO.InS4N3 wrote:Yes it was worth the time in my case since I don't have an SSD my regular HDD is slower compared to the RAM DISK. Try starting the browser a few times with AdBlock Latitude BETA 3.5.
Yeah, I am trying to support Matt A. Tobin and continue using AdBlock Latitude.
With an SSD, everything loads in a flash, even Palemoon, if I remove ABL.
uBlock wouldn't work right when I opened a new browser window, or when I open the Window, the first or tabs in the new Window weren't being ad-blocked.

As far as i know we do not block any browsers on forum.thewindowsclub, so this sounds very weird....
But i will take a look at it tomorrow.
Try another browser: Opera, Firefox, IE....
