Why old version of gstreamer

Unread post by Kurtkurt » 2015-08-18, 10:45

On my Arch box I have gstreamer 1.4 installed, including the good, bad and ugly plugins and gstreamer-libav. I've also have ffmpeg installed.

Browers OTTER, QUPZILLA and FIREFOX all report from the youtube test page (https://www.youtube.com/html5?gl=GB) with a nice blue tick in HTMLVideoElement, H.264 & WebM VP8

However for palemoon it gives a nasty red ! for H.264.

It appears it wants gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg (which also requires gstreamer0.10-base and gstreamer0.10).

Why if what I have installed is good enough for the other browers its not for palemoon.

Set "media.gstreamer.enabled" to "True" in about:config. That should give you H.264 on YouTube.

Apologies - I should have stated that I had already done that.

Try installing gstreamer0.10-good-plugins and see if that works for you.

OK - This time I'll apologise if I sound rude but did you read the title of this thread or read what I had put in. I KNOW how to get it working its just why is PALEMOON demanding that you use an older version of gstreamer when other browsers, including FIREFOX, just use whats there.

As it stands I will not be installing gstreamer0 as I already have gstreamer1 installed and therefore will not be able to use PALEMOON.

Sadly not in Pale Moon. That is Mozilla's bug tracker.

If I recall correctly, the change was past Firefox 24, for Firefox 28 (that was the version in Ubuntu 14.04) it was still necessary to have gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg installed.

My apologies, I misunderstood your question and thought you were trying to get gstreamer working as well as asking why 1.0 was not supported. GStreamer 1.0 support is being looked into; you can keep track of progress here:
