After this long lapse...it appears that Transmission is now working on my computer! I don't know how or what I did to make it do its job. But apparently it is working. I don't think I did anything different, it just seems to work now. Thank you for all the helpful tips! I shall assume that something along the way helped get things straight. Much obliged to all!
