pminstaller updated to 0.1.7!

Unread post by trava90 » 2015-02-13, 06:35

Thanks to the efforts of squarefractal, the Pale Moon for Linux installer has been updated to version 0.1.7! Improvements in this version:

** Actually enable curl to download the files
** Correct an issue with the XAUTHORITY variable on some systems
** Make use of "fold" for userdocs/README
** Rename some cryptically named functions
** Add command line switches to enable changing of URLs and to disable minification and cleanup when compiling
** Update the documentation to reflect above changes.

All of these are "under the hood" improvements; no changes have been made to the GUI or the way in which the installer is run.

PMinstaller; 2 simple Questions

Unread post by SfdudePM » 2015-02-13, 11:00

Those of us,
with the prev. version of PM Installer
(which is working just fine in Ubuntu 12.04...),

Q1)
Do we need to upgrade to this new version?

Q2)
If we no need to upgrade PMinstaller,
how do we do that?
(baby-steps for non-techies, please...).

Thanks!...

Since pminstaller is by itself not installed, you cannot really "upgrade" it, just delete the old folder and extract the new one.

Thank you f/the quick reply, Sven...

last Q:
How to extract
the necessary PMinstaller file(s),
once I D/L the "tar.bz" file?

I love Linux and Pale Moon
but I'm relatively new to Linux (Ubuntu 12.04 in my case...).

Need some baby-step intructions...still learning Linux...
(Windows ex-user / refugee, here...)

Thanks!

When you double click the file in your file manager it should open in File Roller (that's Ubuntu's WinZip/WinRar) and you can simply extract it by clicking the Extract button. tar.bz is not that well known on Windows but it is a very common format for archives on Linux and every system should be able to handle them easily. From the user point of view it is not different from zip or rar.

As a general advice: Many things on Ubuntu and very many modern Linux distros are just like on Windows, so when you know the Windows way always try that one first, it is likely to work in the same or a very similar way. There are just a few things that are terribly different, in that case Google is your friend. I guess there is virtually no question that hasn't been asked before.
