[Solved] Pale Moon for Linux maintainer has left.

Unread post by Moonchild » 2014-11-04, 08:53

Cyansmoker, our previous Pale Moon for Linux (PM4Linux) maintainer, has left with immediate effect.

I can take over building of the Linux browser binaries myself, that's not too much of an issue since I have the environments available for it.

I would, however, prefer a dedicated (and hopefully a bit more active) maintainer for the Linux builds and their distribution through SourceForge. It won't take much time in general, since the Linux community here seems to be savvy enough to solve most support questions among themselves, but it will require keeping an open communication line with the devs here, and working with me to somewhat synchronize releases if possible (especially in case of critical security updates).
I ask this because I would prefer not have to focus too much on release engineering, so I can continue my core work.

If you think you have what it takes and are genuinely interested in working with us to keep Pale Moon for Linux a solid alternative to other Linux web browsers, then please let me/us know :)

You don't have to be a :ugeek: for this!

Ouch. :( Since I use linux Pale Moon as my default browser in linux, this is going to hurt.

As stated there's nothing preventing me from building Linux binaries for each release in the interim :) Don't panic ;)

Everybody knows that cyansmoker was injured, but I'm curious as to why he decided to leave at this point of time, rather than earlier, when it became clear to him that he could no longer maintain Pale Moon on a regular basis.

Looks like we have filled the Linux maintainer role. Thanks for responding! :)

Again, thank you for stepping up to the plate as linux Pale Moon's maintainer. I use 64 bit linux Pale Moon 25.0.2 in both 64 bit linux Mint 17 and 64 bit linux SolydX and it works very well in these two linux distros.

It is something I would consider looking into/maintaining, provided Moonchild has no objections and the build quality would be on par with our other releases. At this point, however, it's not something high on my priority list.

No problem, as I said glad to be here and contribute! I have Pale Moon installed as the primary browser on my wife's computer running Linux Mint 17 64bit, and there has never been a problem!

I've only recently come across Pale Moon. I liked it so much, I made it my default browser. Then I saw this forum, and my heart sank temporarily. Thank you for stepping in.

Since we're pretty much off-topic from here on out I'm closing this thread -- feel free to create (a) new topic(s) for further Linux/distro discussions :)
