Artefacts in some SVG graphics

Post by Sindmann » 2020-08-06, 08:04

Hi, I'm running PaleMoon 28.10.0 on Ubuntu 18.04 64bit.
In this and older versions I noticed "artefacts" in some "heavy" SVG graphics. I include a screenshot of one of them, left side is Firefox 78.0.2 with no artefacts, right side is PaleMoon 28.10.0 with several artefacts. I also include the original SVG file as attachment.
Best regards, Mike.

In this case, a mozregression "fix range" would help so we can know when this was fixed in Firefox and what code changes to look at.
Tomaso, maybe you have time to do this?

Does the problem persist in 28.12.0?

Yes, the artefacts are still there in the new version.

I also tested it with 25.6.0-Win/Atom, which I had on an old notebook, and that version shows NO artefacts!

The Firefox image is also not artefact-free, by the way, just look at the lines running to the island and along the west coast. It's just not as severe and of a different kind.

EDIT: Got time to pull down the svg and render it in 28.12.0 and it looks like the Firefox image, so it's definitely not something in the SVG parser and renderer, which would make it something else, e.g. a video driver problem or accelerated layers issue. Did you force-enable it?

The drawing artefacts that show up in all browsers are part of the SVG by the way, since Inkscape renders it exactly the same.

Layers acceleration was set to false, I changed it to true and now there are no artefacts!

Curious. usually it's the other way around :)
Glad it fixed it for you!
