Automatic Updater not working for PM28.0.1
I am running antiX linux 32 bit and PM 28.0.0.
I got a forum notice that PM for linux has been updated to 28.0.1
The automatic updater is not working.
If I have Preferences set for Check for Updates and I go to Help > About Palemoon and click Check for Updates, it check then says Palemoon is up to date.
If I set Preferences to Automatically Update and I go to Help > About Palemoon, it shows Checking for Updates, then says Palemoon is up to date.
BTW, I used Trava90's instructions below for originally installing PM28:
[ In order to allow the internal updater to work with v28 (while leaving Pale Moon in /opt), you can perform the following steps:
1. Extract the Pale Moon 28 tarball (once released) to /opt, overriding the existing version there.
2. Run the following command from the terminal: sudo chown -R "$USER:$USER" "/opt/palemoon" ]
Thanks for the help.

Same here, all I see is only the link to the Palemoon website.
Xubuntu 14.04, 64bit.

@greyowl I am aware of the updater not working on 32-bit builds and am investigating.
@Zinkum I know the updater is working correctly with 64-bit builds (I updated Pale Moon x64 using the internal updater on three systems today). Did you extract Pale Moon to a user-writable location?

Re: Automatic Updater not working for PM28.0.1
antiX also maintains Pale Moon source builds in its own repository, if you're willing to wait a bit for anti to build them. They're actually based on my own MX Linux and the OBS builds. Let me drop anti a PM about the update.

Thank you for the information.

@trava90
Hm, I am not sure what you're talking about... Isn't the built-in updater supposed to do the job?
If not, could you provide any instructions on how to use the updater please?
Thank you.

@Zinkum,
The internal updater can only do its job if Pale Moon is located in a user-writable location. How and where did you install Pale Moon?

Ah, that's the thing... It's in /opt, as it has always been.trava90 wrote:@Zinkum,

OK, looks like automatic updater is not really automatic and the terminal is one's best friend again...

Re: Automatic Updater not working for PM28.0.1
Did you change ownership of /opt/palemoon as described in the first post?
Re: Automatic Updater not working for PM28.0.1
It worked..... after changing ownership of /opt/palemoon! Thanks Trava90

Re: Automatic Updater not working for PM28.0.1
@greyowl the internal updater should now be working for 32-bit also. Please try again and report back.

Yes, it now works.trava90 wrote:@greyowl the internal updater should now be working for 32-bit also. Please try again and report back.
I have preferences set for auto update. When I went to help > About PM, it said that there was an update so i clicked on the button and it updated.
I am wondering if it should have just updated automatically in the back ground without me going to About PM.
Thanks for fixing this and your help.

Hi,
if someone is using uBlock origin it is necessary to allow palemoon.org for the updater to work.
