I get a lot of those "unicode squares" or whatever they're called.
Before 28 about half of them would have fonts that look like chess pieces or arabic. Should I have any particular font installed in Linux to make this look right?

Re: Font issues
To be honest I don’t know, but I *think* that the font is probably downloaded from some third party site when your browser loads the page. I see in the source for the page that it’s listing a .ttf file located on walmartimages.com. Make sure it’s not blocked (have you tried without noscript?).
Edit: I can see the little drawings here, with the default uMatrix settings, and uBlock origin.

Re: Font issues
Check the about:config value of the Pref (I think it is), gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled ?
If it is set to 'false', toggle it to 'true' & see if that gets your fonts working?
If it does not, set it back to where it was.
And look to see if you may have an extension that is blocking things. (NoScript can do this, block fonts.)
