New Tab Page and Web Sites

Unread post by troypulk » 2017-12-16, 19:00

On the New Tab Page I have it set to show the new tab page, except one block is empty and after going to the site I wanted to add it didn't get added to the block it just stayed empty but other sites would be added but not the one I wanted.

Is there a way to force a web page into an empty block in the new tab page?

Thanks

No, there is no way to add custom sites -- the QuickDial page always shows your most frequently visited sites from history.
If you want a customized start page, may I suggest you make use of the customize option of the Pale Moon start portal (https://palemoon.start.me/)? It will allow you to link to any websites you want at will. Registering for an account is recommended so you won't lose your customizations if you lose your ID or cookies.

Install the Quickdial Tool add-on. Then, right-click on the blank thumbnail. Then, select "Location" from the "New Tab" context sub-menu.

Enter the new URL in the location dialog window, then click "OK".

You can get multiple tabs to open up when starting a specific profile. The entries for "Home Page" have to be separated by
space pipe space
E.g. for my profile for the Puppy Linux forum, the following is actually one long line...

Code: Select all

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/ | http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=90461 | http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=93807
You can specify http: or https: or ftp: or file: or any other valid URL type.
There's a right way
There's a wrong way
And then there's my way

I'm not on the "QuickDial page" I'm on the New Tab Page. I don't use "Pale Moon start portal" I use the old Pale Moon START page and the new tab page.

From the the way this new tab page works it does not save the most frequently visited sites from history, the way it really works is that it saves the newest web site clicked on, like today I went to a web page that I have not been too in mouths but it saved in the one open box in the new tab page but never the most frequent, if it did Yahoo would be there every day but even yahoo does not get saved, only new web sites.

I'll have to experiment with a new profile or something.

"Quickdial page" is Pale Moon's name for the internal page "about:newtab", whereas "new tab page" is Firefox's name for the "about:newtab" page. Check the value of the preference "browser.newtab.url", in about:config, to see what you're actually using for your new tab page.

The Quickdial/New Tab page is populated by a formula combining frequency and recency of visited websites ("frecency"). You may not have enough history in Pale Moon, to fully populate the Quickdial/New Tab page, in accordance with this formula. Thus, if you used pinned tabs in Firefox, copy the value of the preference "browser.newtabpage.pinned" from Firefox, and paste this value to the preference "browser.newtabpage.pinned" in Pale Moon. The Quickdial/New Tab page can also be populated quickly by dragging bookmarks from the bookmarks toolbar to the desired location on the Quickdial/New Tab grid.

This did the trick thank you, plus I learned something new, this forced a web site to the new tab page just like I wanted.

Thanks
