Tab loading icon blinking on Pale Moon 27.6

Updated my browser today and now I am facing this issue where the spinning tab loading icon keeps blinking until the tab is loaded, i.e. the icon keeps alternating between being visible and hidden, and that gives the icon a dancing effect. It's only the "loading" circle which appears after page data starts downloading, that has the issue; "connecting" circle behaves properly.

Using a clean profile does not change anything. Reverting to older 27.5.1 fixes the issue.
I am on 32-bit Linux (Arch) and using Pale Moon with default theme.

I have this little concern aswell. I too have default Pale Moon theme on 32bit. This issue did not appear on the earlier version. To the latest 27.6 appeared suddenly.
I am on:
Pale Moon 27.6 / Devuan GNU/Linux 1 (jessie) / clean from addons/plugins except hosts that i use.
If the website takes a few moments to load because of many stuff, the loading icon (on the left) of tab blinks until the page loads completely.

I have tried even with a new fresh profile just to be sure, there is no change. The load icon still blinks.

Thanks!
Nili

Same visual glitch here (custom 64 bits build with gcc v5.5 on PCLinuxOS).

Me too, my 32-bit unstable (build date 2017/11/06). A semi-workaround is to tap the {ESCAPE} key once to stop loading. Usually, it's an extra ad banner trying to load. In my case, it's Facebook "Like" buttons. I block Facebook coming and going.

Using Tree Style Tabs 0.0.2 does not show this issue for me. Just thought I would throw this out there.

Out of curiosity installed Tree Style Tab and it does not change a thing. Same blinking going on, doesn't matter where the tabs are.

Sure you're talking Linux?

I'm using 64 bit linux Pale Moon. The only ad blocking extension I use is Adblock Latitude. I suspect it is a some type of ad causing the problem and ABL is not blocking it completely. On some of the sites I go to, the spinning activity indicator just keeps spinning sometimes. But in my case, I'm running 64 bit linux Mint 18.2 and Mint has a Domain Blocker utility program installed by default.

When I encounter this problem, at the end of the Status Bar at the far left, it show me the address of the site which is still trying to load in the background. So I type in the address of the offending site, add it to my Domain Blocker, close Pale Moon, then re-start Pale Moon, go back to the site and then the spinning activity indicator problem is solved. As an example, the Excite portal can cause this problem because this site has a lot of ads that are trying to load in the background.

I don't believe it has anything to do with ads. A totally clean, no addons, freshly extracted 27.6 on x64 does show the blinking behaviour.
Using the standalone .tar.bz2, but i guess that is not the issue either.

Because I use a modified /etc/hosts just clean it up "hosts", "Browser Profile", "TMP", ".cache" No addons, No plugins, No Flash, No Java... just raw Pale Moon, Again the tab blinking "loading icon" is clearly seen a few seconds once the page is fully loaded to be replaced with the site icon or static no icon. In my opinion this is not a add block issue.

I see it too, 32-bit system. Looks to me like there are a few missing frames in the animation, that's all.

Using TreeStyleTabs does not eliminate the problem for me, either.
The problem persists in version 27.7.0a1 (64-bit) (2017-11-04) in Ubuntu 14.04.5.

The issue does not appear in 27.5.1 (64-bit).

I'm suffering with the same issue, very strange and confusing. I checked the forum just about this.

It was really hurting my eyes. So, I took the plunge and decided to bisect. Below is the offending commit:

Unfortunately, fixing this seems to require some superpowers.

No superpowers but an ugly workaround that fixes the irritating blinking for me:

Need a new 'throbber'. Sure there is many options, but I decided to extract a
throbber from the Classic-Theme-Restorer addon.

- Download the Classic-Theme-Restorer.xpi and extract it with your archive manager.
- Browse the extracted archive to /content/images and find throbber-loading-ubuntu.png
- Copy throbber-loading-ubuntu.png into your pale moon chrome folder.
- In the chrome folder edit userChrome.css and add/insert the following lines:

.tab-throbber[busy] {
list-style-image: url("throbber-loading-ubuntu.png") !important;
}
.tab-throbber[progress] {
list-style-image: url("throbber-loading-ubuntu.png") !important;
}

- restart Pale Moon.

This does work in my case, the irritating blinking, stuttering is gone.

Hope (for the rest of PM users),
that the next PM version *(27.6.2 ?)
will have a checkbox option
in PM Preferences / [Tabs]:

[ ] Use throbber png in Tab loading ? :problem:

I filled an issue about this regression, see Issue #1474.
