MSN video not working in Linux

It's been going on for a while now, yahoo is the same. Some web sites work but others don't, it's an inconvenience because I'm tired of going to other browsers just to see a video so I'm looking into it a little deeper.

Like this one: https://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainment/video or this one https://sports.yahoo.com/video/boesers- ... 39641.html

It seems that they both have Ad's that PM can't seem to get by.

I've tried Flash on and off, Adblocker on and off, video settings in Pale Moon Preferences MSE on and off, Hardware acceleration on and off.

All the video's work on this site: http://www.quirksmode.org/html5/tests/video.html and my setting are all blue on this one https://www.youtube.com/html5

What other settings in PM would help these Ad's to work or is it the Web sites and there's nothing I can do?

I'm using SolydX EE Debian testing and PM 27.5.1 and ffmpeg 3.3.4-2

I am able to watch these videos on Linux using the mpv-youtube-dl-binding addon (installed with Moon Tester Tool). They are thus not played in the browser, but in mpv, thanks to youtube-dl (which needs to be installed separately too).

MSN videos (https://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainment ... vi-AAurR7k and https://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainment ... vi-AAus0S1) play just fine here in Pale Moon 27.5.1 on 32-bit Linux with default video settings.
Yahoo link redirects me to the home page, maybe that's a US-only video.

I can confirm adesh's finding using PM 27.5.1 on Arch Xfce 64-bit ( default video settings) after allowing content from both akamal.net and akamaized.com in uBlockO and allowing media and scripts from both those in uMatrix. ( I don't run default settings in uMatrix)
However, it takes around 20 seconds before content begins to play.

These video's just buffer and never start for me.

It has to be PM because they work just fine on Chromium and Fire Fox.

I tried this again with 27.6 in safe mode and the latest unstable version and PM still cannot get past these ad's or even start.

What could cause this, anyone one?

I'm going to downgrade to a lower PM and see if that works because this only started after v27 if I remember right.

These MSN vids play for me, but I found it necessary to enable that first.

In about:config set

Code: Select all

media.autoplay.enabled = true
media.autoplay.allowscripted = true
This worked for me, I just need to disable Adblock Latitude.
