I didn't poke around, but I will try to remember to see if the console outputs something when I am on a livestream, even though Alexium 67 indicated he saw nothing in his console. I don't know if being subscribed or not makes a difference, since you do not have to be subscribed to even leave a comment on a video (just have an account).

So I am ready, I have the console running while a livestream is about to start no idea what I should be looking for

Ok, so predictably it didn't take long for the chat to stop updating, I have the console open - what should I provide because I'm at a loss.

Other issue cropping up, video now periodically just stops - unless I reload the page. Default network settings, didn't mess with offline or caching.

I decided to just make sure all messages, CSS, JS, etc were to be displayed on the console - and I copied everything to a txt file, sorry for the superfluous crap included , but again I don't know what to look for.

I still cannot understand what may cause this problem. No errors in my browser console. Some times it work fine during long time, some times "freezes" after minutes. I found only one (probably new) thing - my own messages are showing in chat even if it is "frozen". Also Pale Moon may show buffering circle without real video loading. In that moments I view zero Network Activity in "Stats for nerds (admins or something else)". In other times in that stats Network Activity is fully garbage and it is bad too. But it is different problems (not linked with chat) I think.

Please how can I help investigate this problem further? Altering settings?

I wish I knew, and too bad we do not have any other info to give to the devs. Its good that I am not the only sole user experiencing this weird issue, it just sucks that we cannot really provide any further details for the devs to actually find the cause and resolve the issue.

I haven't had the YouTube live chat work in PM for maybe over a year now. Neither on Arch Linux nor Windows 7. I didn't even think it was being supported.

Well it does work, initially - then it just stops updating.

I give up , I upgraded to 27.5.1 and the issue still occurs. I guess I'll fall back to Firefox as my main browser now. :x

Also, this is the repackaged binary and not compiled by me since there is the issue of my version of GCC included in my distro.

Try unstable version! It worked for me, I kept livestream open over 1 hour.

May you test last unstable (20171113142929) and check your problem? Or you may set network.http.spdy.enabled.http2 to false in the current live version (for testing). I have some suspicions about roots of our troubles with chats. I think it may be fixed (i hope). I'll check more but there wasn't any chat stops yesterday.

I recall I briefly played with unstable and was giving me the same issue. I removed the unstable, and only have stable 27.5.1 , and I just checked about:config and http.spdy.enabled.http2 true - I never changed it, I can change it to false and see what happens when I catch a next livestream ? I just do not really want to use unstable though.

So I should change that setting to false then?

Yes. It helped me before. I use 27.6.1 (Windows) now. And no any issues with chats! May you try newer then 27.5.1?

P.S. Or you can just change this option to false stay at your current version

There is a livestream now, and I have changed that setting to false, I will see what happens thanks for the heads up

Though just my luck, youtube in their notifications was late and I only got the last minute which didn't give me enough time.

-edit2

Just updated to stable 27.6.1 for my distro as well

Just a small notice: in 27.6.1 no need to change "network.http.spdy.enabled.http2" to false. It was a workaround so reset it to default "true".

Ok, so then I will be using it with default settings then as before. I will try to catch a livestream to see what happens then.

So, I am in a livestream chat for 20 minutes now so far so good. The actual livestream itself hasn't started, but of course there is a chat. I am cautiously optimistic since so far it has been updating.... Timestamps vs the clock on the lower right hand of the screen.

An hour in and so far so good, the chat is still updating normally. Hopefully I can catch another livestream or two so I can then finally mark this thread as solved and put this issue to rest.

Another successful livestream, and well over an hour of a livestream right now and the chat is working fine so I can now finally say that this issue has resolved. Whatever the hell the problem is, I am glad that the devs somehow solved it in this release.
