Back- and Forward buttons (icons) change

Hello!
First of all let me thank you sincerely for providing the Pale Moon - after nearly a decade with the fox, it has become the web browswer of my choice!
Now, lately i switched from Windows to Linux.
As a matter of fact, the unavailability of latest Pale Moon for Win-XP was one main reason to search a suitable linux distro seriously, and at the end, i found debian-based Q4OS (http://q4os.org) with KDE/Trinity desktop as the perfect os for me.
As one of the first App's for sure i went to install PM: got the latest bzipped tarball, extracted it to my new system (32bit btw!! ) and it worked smoothly and flawlessly from the first launch.
But then, from a certain point a really strange 'issue' occured:
Let me just mention that besides PM, i also installed an older version (10) of Firefox (the last verion for win2k i think).
For some reasen i like to run 2 or 3 browsers simultaneously, and amongst those that old FF-version.
And here is why i mentioned that:
At a certain point of time (after the installation of other app's), the icons on the Back- and Forward button change!
And they changed in Firefox-10 as well.
Initially the Back/Forth buttons look like those on this screen:

Two closed polygons symbolizing arrows, filled up green when actve, filled grey if not. Nice.
After installing other programs - unfortunately i'm not able to render that more precisely, even after several attempts - both icons change, in PM as well as in FF-10!
Now they look like " <°° " and " °°> " as shown on this picture:

(Obviously i'm not the first one having that effect, since that screenshot is not mine!)
Here however is a screeshot i took myself:
https://www.q4os.org/forum/attachment.php?item=214
The outer Frame is ,my' Palemoon, showing the screenshot of another PM which has yet the original icons.: same OS (Q4OS), same PM, same "everything" - but different icons on the back/forth buttons.
Do you agree my appraisal that this is a strange fact?
I mentioned that the same ,change' took place coincidentely in age-old Firefox-10, hence i tend to rate this as an GTK2 related effect.
I found the ,new' icon used on my linux system in:
/usr/share/icons/Adwaita/16x16/actions/go-previous.png and
/usr/share/icons/Adwaita/16x16/actions/go-next.png
My question now is :
Which icons/resources are used in PM for the back and forth button on a linux?
And as an addition: Are there any "alternatives" or "variations" possible in PM itself?
One last amendment: add-ons (and PM-configurations) can be excluded as cause: as the effect occours without any of them installed - and as it appears also in FF as well.
Many thanks in advance for your investigations, hints and ideas,
Happy Easter!
