multiple profiles under linux

Unread post by Lucio Chiappetti » 2017-01-19, 17:26

Next week I will be hosting a couple of temporary students. I'd like them to access a VNC session on my machine under MY account (I have reasons to), but I'd want them to run palemoon in the VNC session under a different profile from my one.

I did what follows:
  • made a backup of my configuration and closed palemoon
  • started palemoon -profilemanager and created the new profile "Studenti"
  • in profiles.ini general I set StartWithLastProfile=0
  • in profiles.ini I add Default=1 to my (default) profile
  • an invocation of "palemoon" starts my own profile with all my setup, addons, including the session manager etc.
  • an invocation of "palemoon -new-instance -P Studenti" starts the alternate profile
The only thing to be wary is that in -P the profile name is case sensitive (I was originally giving it lowercase and was presented a popup asking me to select the profile ... originally I wanted to make this post to know how to get rid of the popup, but since I found the solution myself, I am sharing it.
