Well...there's at least one PPA that has gcc-4.9 for Trusty, but I can't guarantee that'll build on the OBS. Let me get the source files and see what happens.

I've added it to the repo, but it takes a while to build: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show ... er/gcc-4.9

If it succeeds, I have a "-4" PM revision ready to upload that tests if it's being built on Trusty and forces a gcc-4.9 build instead of the default 4.8.

But Debian 7 is definitely EOL!

Not that i use it, but 7 is not EOL yet really AFAIK ;) . Debian 7 is also still alive as it have extended support via ELTS, with that it goes into 2019. if not more. Official Debian EOL is after 3 years, but LTS give it 2 years more, while ELTS give it for now another 1+ year :D No one knows when this will stop since CIP project (https://www.cip-project.org/) also fund this, these aim to build linux-based civil infrastructure systems with crazy amount of support period, 10 or 20 and even 50 years :D No idea what are their projections really to accomplish this, but i guess next or some Debian LTSes will be supported much more in some way, maybe up to 10 years (as that is their bare minimum to start with, with at least 20 desired on their own) but who knows ;D

That first gcc-4.9 source for Trusty I got from a PPA failed to build some necessary packages when it finally finished after 18 hrs or so, and when I look into the PPA pool, it looks broken there, too. The gcc-5 for Trusty there looks better--even if I can't build it in my repo, I'm willing to talk a Trusty user through building PM with gcc-5 from the PPA on their own machine--it's not that difficult.

Well, at least it has been tried. Thank you for your time.

FTR, I'm not on Trusty myself -- only some relations of mine are; I'm rather enjoying my MX-17.1 install right now. Good job on that one!

I set up a 64-bit Trusty install in Virtual Box, added this PPA to get gcc-5: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-toolchain ... buntu/test and then built a Pale Moon 28.0.0 deb package in it. Users will also need to add that PPA to get gcc-5 runtime libraries.

The 64-bit deb file can be downloaded here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=15AzlD ... _a8yqNc_z-

and is best installed with gdebi. I'm working on a 32-bit build.

Hmmm---Ubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu 14.04 ISOs, along with Mint 17.3 XFCE, all fail to boot in a 32-bit PAE Virtual Box VM I've set up, after the initial screen shows and the dots appear along the bottom. after a few minutes, I get a busybox error and something about not finding the medium. This is with a backported Vbox 5.2.18 from Sid on a Debian Stretch base...and the 32-bit MX Linux Live ISOs have no problem on the same machine. Maybe there's some boot cheat I need for Ubuntu?

Update: the F6 key at boot allows for some choices that are allowing the ISO to boot and install, so I should have a 32-bit deb sometime later today. The PPA with gcc-5 will still need to be attached and activated while the deb is installed, though. It can then be deactivated.

Uploading the 28.0.1 source files to the OBS now to build. I'll have to manually build the Ubuntu 14.04 debs on my own machine again.

Trusty debs are uploaded. As before, they require that this PPA is enabled to pull in the gcc-5 runtimes, though you'll already have those if you've installed 28.0, so can just install it.

32-bit (i386): https://drive.google.com/open?id=1zfLOm ... fk7uReTWjc

64-bit (amd64): https://drive.google.com/open?id=1VT2mf ... 914YJBT5sh

I'm currently trying to build that gcc-4.9 backport for Wheezy and Trusty in my repo; if that works, I'll have Wheezy and Trusty PM packages in there without the need for a PPA.

I admit I'm still using Debian 7 because I saw the same thing that they now have prolonged the additional 2 years LTS over the standard 3 years even longer now with ELTS (extended long-term support).

Why should I waste hours to upgrade to a higher version? My experience in the past is that mostly some things that you have added later like this repo only make difficulties. Config fies that you have manually added no longer work as expected etc.

So please do not remove the old versions so soon. Debian now a minimum of 6 years support. And that's still behind Red Hat / CentOS which has 10 years standard support. Ubuntu has changed from 3 years to 5 years support. Let's hope they increase the support years again. Never touch a running system. Installing a new OS is a waste of life time that you can spend better. And by the way your hardware was not made for the newer os version and you could run into trouble because some things were dropped out of the kernel i.e. support for the sis graphic chips. I tried newer versions but easy run into trouble with suspend and hibernate no longer working because big changes to the X server or hardware acceleration not working flawlessly. Longer support is now another advantage of Linux against Windows.

I removed the Wheezy build because it does not have the gcc minimum version to build PM, and I haven't been able to build a newer gcc for it that works.

I use gcc-4.9 (4.9.2-0ubuntu1~12.04) from precise ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-toolchain-r, works perfect, it's allow me to run your liquorix kernels build for jessie/mx-15. 28.1.0 builds are complete in the standard repo.

Custom debs for Ubuntu Trusty that require gcc-5 from the above mentioned PPA are here for i386: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1flOLE ... 4Btz4MFyoj

Yeah, I had this problem earlier today too on Debian 9... I found another repo at http://provo-mirror.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/stevenpusser/Debian_9.0/ but now everything is back working fine according to apt...
