Why does Fossamail not support Windows XP?
Are there any plans to support it in the future?
I would like to use Fossamail on all of my computers, however, due to this lack of support, I am not able to.
I apologize if this question has been asked before, I assume it has but I didn't see it in the roster.
Thank you

Re: XP compatibility
FossaMail doesn't support Windows XP because it doesn't have a legacy history, and XP support would mean having to compromise on the internal features of the program.
It never had an XP compatible version and it won't be considered. Sorry.
If someone wants to create an endorsed specialized XP-compatible build, they are welcome to do so, but we won't give any tech support for such a thing.

Re: XP compatibility
That is quite disappointing.
Don't you already compromise on the features of the Pale Moon browser XP/Atom?
On an unrelated note, why is it the Pale Moon browser will stop loading large image files after it has been up for a certain period of time?

Re: XP compatibility
Yes we do. It is a specialized build that cannot leverage some of the internal features that the main-line version of Pale Moon has.Maxell wrote:Don't you already compromise on the features of the Pale Moon browser XP/Atom?
FossaMail is also not Pale Moon. It has a different history, is much newer, and there is no reason why we should start supporting an obsolete OS in it after the fact.

Re: XP compatibility
The term "obsolete" is a subjective term.
Windows XP functions well for many tasks, which is why it became one of the most used operating systems in the world.
I understand they are two different projects but if XP is obsolete why continue supporting the platform with Pale Moon?
It would be very nice if both programs could be used on my XP devices.
The reason I am concerned with the issue is because I find Pale Moon and Fossamail to be some of the best solutions to my web browsing and email needs.
I hope the issue will be reconsidered.

Re: XP compatibility
We simply don't have the time to spare to make a separate build, do its release engineering, etc.Maxell wrote:I hope the issue will be reconsidered.
I repeat:

As an aside:
No, it's not. It may have fuzzy edges in terms of when exactly something is called obsolete, but in the case of XP we really are past that.Maxell wrote:The term "obsolete" is a subjective term.
Obsolete software can still function well for many tasks it was designed for, no doubt about that! But that doesn't make it any less obsolete or surpassed. And surpassed is a key term here: for example, Windows 7 will likely not be obsolete as quickly as XP because there is no later version that surpasses it for desktop environments, and the kernel is still the same generation as "the latest" which is not the case for XP. XP was the last in the NT5 line and things have fundamentally changed in terms of support and technologies after it. 14 years later, you cannot expect people to still target it with their development.
As said, because of its legacy history that FossaMail doesn't have.Maxell wrote:if XP is obsolete why continue supporting the platform with Pale Moon?
