Attachments as "Winmail.dat"

Post by BlueSky » 2015-04-28, 12:52

Hi,

I am new to Fossamail. I use fossamail as a client for Gmail.

However, lately I see the emails I receive (with attachments) does not come through correctly.

In Google (gmail), it shows the correct pdf attachment, but in Fossamail, it simply shows a "winmail.dat" attachment.

I am sure to has something to do with the encoding.

Please assist.

Regards

Here's an informative page about winmail.dat

http://www.pchell.com/support/winmaildat.shtml

Basically, the sender of the e-mails is sending mail in a non-standard, proprietary Microsoft Outlook format. If the actual attachments are properly sent along with it, you should be able to just open those as well. The winmail.dat file would be used for the message body.

OK,

Thanks for this information.

I used http://www.eolsoft.com/download/ (None of others worked in the suggested link)

Bit of a work around, but fossamail is still one of better clients out there.

Thx
