Thanks Trava for bringing FossaMail to Linux!
I have basically followed these instructions
http://sourceforge.net/p/pm4linux/wiki/ ... tallation/
replacing "palemoon" with "FossaMail" and some minor adjustments, then copied my TBird (31.4.0) profile to the FossaMail folder and it works pretty well, I am running it on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (with Unity Desktop). Launcher icon in Unity/Dash is still missing and there is also no integration with the message indicator, need to have a look into that later. Anyway, besides that it works exactly like TBird.
EDIT: one minor thing, FossaMail should follow the same naming conventions as Pale Moon, so no caps, makes things easier.

You are welcome!SvenG wrote:Thanks Trava for bringing FossaMail to Linux!
You can also just download and extract the file (just as you can do with the Pale Moon packages).SvenG wrote:I have basically followed these instructions

I haven't used Ubuntu since Unity came out, so I'm not really familiar with how Unity/Dash uses launchers. I know it is old, but I found this regarding adding Thunderbird to the message indicator.SvenG wrote:Launcher icon in Unity/Dash is still missing and there is also no integration with the message indicator, need to have a look into that later.
I'll look into this for next release.SvenG wrote:EDIT: one minor thing, FossaMail should follow the same naming conventions as Pale Moon, so no caps, makes things easier.

I know, did that first, but I am one of those guys that like their apps kinda installedtrava90 wrote:You can also just download and extract the file (just as you can do with the Pale Moon packages).SvenG wrote:I have basically followed these instructions

Thanks, that is basically what I tried, unfortunately, it doesn't completely work. The launcher (fossamail.desktop) is there, it has the options for opening contacts and composing new mail, it also uses the icon (that part was my mistake). More or less copied everything from TBird. Everything is fine in the Unity panel, it just doesn't show up in indicator messages. Tried /usr/share/indicators/messages/applications/ as well as ~/.config/indicators/messages/applications/ (as specified here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MessagingMenu/#Registration). Also dconf, that has a respective entry in com.canonical.indicator.messages, seems to do nothing. Gonna have a closer look next weekend.trava90 wrote:I haven't used Ubuntu since Unity came out, so I'm not really familiar with how Unity/Dash uses launchers. But besides this it works really well, used it for about half of todays email work.

Same here!SvenG wrote:I know, did that first, but I am one of those guys that like their apps kinda installed
Unfortunately I haven't used Ubuntu in so long I'm afraid I don't know what else to suggest off the top of my head.SvenG wrote:Thanks, that is basically what I tried, unfortunately, it doesn't completely work. No Problem. Maybe it's changes that Canonical applies to the Ubuntu packages, they also contain the integrated menus for Unity, so there must be something different. There is also a package called "thunderbird-gnome-support" that I haven't investigated yet.trava90 wrote:Unfortunately I haven't used Ubuntu in so long I'm afraid I don't know what else to suggest off the top of my head.
I also realized that GNotifier
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... gnotifier/
that has a minimum requirement of Thunderbird 24.1.1 isn't working on FossaMail but it looks like Gnome Integration
https://addons.mozilla.org/de/thunderbi ... tegration/
gets FossaMail to use libnotify.

I forgot that Ubuntu ships with certain changes to Firefox & Thunderbird, although I don't remember what exactly is modified. An extension was going to be my next suggestion; let us know what works for you!SvenG wrote:Maybe it's changes that Canonical applies to the Ubuntu packages, they also contain the integrated menus for Unity, so there must be something different. Re: FossaMail for Linux Feedback Thread
I will see what I can do, I have just recently switched back to TBird after using web based mail for a few years, so I am not 100% up-to-date what is available, fortunately, many (maybe most) things haven't changed that much. But back than I was still a Windows user.trava90 wrote:let us know what works for you!
Really hope that more Linux users are willing to share their workarounds/fixes.
EDIT: Here is one way to get FossaMail into the tray area in Unity (on Trusty, Utopic and Vivid):
1. Install Unity with Systray from this ppa
https://launchpad.net/~gurqn (thanks to Andrew of Webup8)
2. install fire tray
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunde ... /firetray/
that should also make use of libnotify. That's at least a notifier and indicator for new messages.
(found this solution here https://github.com/foudfou/FireTray/iss ... t-23552659)
I have tried it, it works but I didn't like it that much.
