Query: Blocking IP address in FossaMail headers

Hi all,

I may use FossaMail soon as my default email client, since Gmail's webmail interface is becoming really ugly and idiot. However, there's a thing I don't like about most email client software, including Mozilla Thunderbird and FossaMail — It shows the IP address where the email was sent from. Is any way to block this in the headers? Maybe a mod at about:config or an add-on?

The IP address is normally not shown. it is part of the headers if you inspect them, but not of the normally displayed fields.

That's what exactly I tried to mean. Is there a way to block it in the headers? If I have to use an email client software, I want enhanced privacy. Almost all webmail clients use their servers IP address instead of user's IP address, but AOL Mail.

Do you mean you don't want your e-mail address to be in the headers of mails you send out to others? If so, then that is something the SMTP server you are sending outbound mail to has to do, since the SMTP server is the node that inserts the received: header.

Webmail doesn't improve your privacy by the way, since mail headers sent from webmail interfaces also include unique identifiers for the IP address mail was sent from. Webmail may obfuscate the IP address (which actually made it easier for spammers to escape immediate action from spam recipients and IMHO was a bad idea) but it is no less uniquely identifiable.

In addition, this is e-mail. E-mail, by design, regardless of client used (webmail, TB, FM, or others) is traceable. That is why it is admissible in court cases as evidence

I don't want my IP address to be in the headers of emails I send out to others.

I do understand email servers' owners have several ways to always track & trace an email message. What I'm asking is a way for the email recipient to don't know my IP address, not for the email servers' admins, who will know it anyway. Does that thing exist? Is that technically possible?

That is not controlled by the client. it's inserted by the server you send mail to. See above.
