I have to wonder, why does the translation have to be at 100% before it gets published? Firefox never localised its every component for all languages, and I don't see a point for translating the developer tools, and other, more obscure parts of the browser from the viewpoint of the average user who needs a localisation in the first place. Shouldn't it be enough for the primary interface to be fully translated for the first version of each language pack to be published on the site? There's the beta build, true, but I think that focusing on quality over quantity would be the best approach, requiring the primary interface to go be translated first, and go through multiple independent checks, after which it could be published independently on the spot, rather than languish in the beta indefinitely with uncertain accuracy over those last few per cents.

But why? What is the need for a normal user to wait until all the developer tools and other such functions to be translated, when grand majority of developers prefer working in English, anyway, while the casual users who actually need the translation would be happy just to have the surface functions translated properly? The more work there is, the higher the chance of errors, and harder it is to find and correct them, afterwards. I feel that dividing the translation work into blocks with different degrees of priority would ensure both a higher quality and faster output.

At least the "English (GB)"-, "Français (FR)"- and "Deutsch (DE)"-Language Pack 27.7.0rc5
don't work properly in Pale Moon version: 27.7.0a2 (32-bit) (2018-01-03) :shock:
Tools/Preferences/Security showing in the 3 translations just a perfect emptyness.
Without Language Packs no trouble.

I just looked for the german translation and found these two strings in security.dtd
addonExceptions.accesskey
autofillPasswords.accesskey

assigned to the same key "A" now (since last update)

Can this perhaps cause the problem?

Here is the pre-release build that is targeted to upcoming Pale Moon 27.7.0 (also compatible with 27.0.0 and later). It seems that Bulgarian, Greek and Ukrainian language packs have reached the production level, so I expect they will be added to the release.

Do you personally lack any specific language pack? Then welcome to join the translation team.

You have to always check the dates; it's not surprising the beta versions of the language packs of December 26, 2017 do not contain all the strings from the unstable build was released later.

Hello everybody, I'm a translator on this amazing project for a year (and a few days) to the Brazilian Portuguese locale (pt-br), and recently I gained permission to verify the translated strings in said language. Nice to meet you all. I was unable to login from my forum account (this account that I'm posting from)¹, and JustOff helped me out, so thank you again for that.

¹Edited for clarifying which account I was unable to login. I didn't sound specific enough before.

Here is the first beta build that is targeted to Pale Moon 27.8.* (also compatible with 27.0.0 and later). Most locales have already been updated with one new string that has been added since the latest release.

Hello! And thank you so much for these updates. They are very helpful to me because they alert me whenever there are new strings to localize. So, thank you very much for this! :clap:

I was checking the locales: 11 completed + 9 translated. They are alone 20 locales ready. But then you got at least 8 locales more with 80% or more translated. So I was wondering what is the minimum percentage of localization needed to publish a locale? I would recommend 80% at least but you are the expert here. :thumbup:

For me it's not about the percentage of completeness, but the attitude to the work. I'm sure those who are not able to complete the translation by 100% can't provide the proper quality, and the more so to carry out subsequent updates.

Hard coding multiple languages

I was looking at the languages available and that they need to be included by installation of XPI and I am wondering how I can avoid the installation, especially when considering that I am working on a custom browser that will not allow the installation of add-ons.

To explore the process I installed the language add-on and then installed French, changed the default to French and restarted. It didn't work but that is not my concern at this point.

I am wondering if I can build a browser with all or some languages already installed, with the option of changing language. I see that the sum total of all languages could be too much to include in the one package, but multiple languages would be useful in a kiosk where each user might have a different preferred language.

I did unpack the XPI but saw no clue as to where the language files are stored and how they need to be registered in PM. Is it possible to hard code the language switcher and build several language resources into my custom release? If so, any advice will be most appreciated.

But it has everything to do with PM 27... do I not provide the open-source to the browser that I am working on, and would it not be an advantage to include several languages in the one package that could be easily switched?
