[Solved] Pale Moon sync failing for a week now

First post here. For the last week or so, I keep getting an error at the bottom of the screen that Pale Moon sync has failed (but it will keep trying). This has gone on long enough. Why is it failing? The sync status gives an ambiguous answer. See this picture:

How can it be running fine and not running fine at the same time? As i said, this has been going on for over a week now. It needs to be addressed by someone.

Currently running version: 25.7.2 (x86)

Hi Bill,

Recovery mode was needed after the various mishaps with the previous server it was on, which required database recovery that would impact performance of the actual sync which might cause intermittent issues, but the server would otherwise be running fine and be fully operational.
This should now be completed. I just verified that Sync is synchronizing things properly from my workstation to the tablet and back; so there shouldn't be any persistent issues.

Sync should be up and fully functional, so if it's not working for you, please post the most recent error log that is listed in about:sync-log (type this in the address bar and press enter) so we can investigate.

mine has been doing the same thing. I see Firefox dumped their sync for a new account based sync on Sept 30. Does this problem have anything to do with that.

OK.. if Mozilla pulled the plug on their Sync 1.1 servers last week, and you are still using those (like jmgarth's post indicates, trying to talk to *.services.mozilla.com) then you need to unlink all your devices, and create a new account on our server by setting up Sync anew. You've been using Mozilla infrastructure that Mozilla has now shut down.

This situation may occur if you migrated a particularly old Firefox profile across to Pale Moon that adopted the old Mozilla server settings.

...kla8496, you can see in your log that your browser is trying to talk to a server designated with services.mozilla.com, meaning you should take a moment to read the most recent announcement and linked posts, or read 2 posts up in this thread for a solution.

The fix is to set up Sync to use the pale Moon Sync server instead of Mozilla's servers, since Mozilla's servers will no longer be available. They have been permanently shut down by Mozilla.

Just returned here to find all these responses to my original post. I received NO emails telling me any one had responded. I wonder why.

I am sure that my PM setup is trying to sync with the defunct Mozilla servers. But, since I only have one computer running Windows (with Pale Moon instead of Firefox), I'll just skip back to FF and clear PM off the machine. If there is just one machine running PM (the rest are running Linux and FF), why bother to sync with itself?

Oh, definitely, Matt. I used it a few times, but had problems getting the Software Updater to accept the PPA for Pale Moon. I kept getting the notification that it was untursted and a refusal to continue updating anything. When I removed the PM PPA, updating went smoothly. I gave up on it and use FF there. It is sufficiently different from the Windows version that it is usable.

In another month or so, after I finish writing the software to use on Linux, I will clear Windows off my dual-boot machine and rely solely on Linux.

Sudden thought: do you have the correct PPA for initial/update of Pale Moon on Linux? Maybe it is different from the one I tried.

The PPA is quite outdated and we have been unable to contact the maintainer regarding an update for it. The recommended way to install/update is by using the pminstaller tool

@trava90: That page let me download a tar.bz2 file, but NOTHING on my Ubuntu system will open it. The Archive Installer will not run against it, nor can I find out why. It isn't executable either. So, what do i do with the file? it isn't doing me any good just sitting there. I need some way to extract the installer don't I? There doesn't appear to be any way to "Simply extract the installer".

Odd, I just downloaded a fresh copy and it extracts for me. Try downloading again (perhaps it got corrupted the first time).

Downloaded it three times - same result. Nothing opened it or disturbed it in any manner. According to the Properties, I have permission to open it, and .tar.bz2 is set to be opened by the Archive Installer, but nothing happens when I double-click the file OR when I choose Archive Installer from the context menu.

I went about it in another way. I started up the Archive Manager and used the Open menu to open the Installer file. That did work (I haven't a clue why double-clicking the file didn't work). I deposited the extracted installer where I could get at it and brought up a Terminal. After a couple of false starts, I managed to get the GUI going. I had to uninstall the current PM before I could install the latest one - that took a bit of thought to get it right as it is not very intuitive.

So, as a result, I now am running 25.7.2 on my Ubuntu system. I hope that's the latest version....

It also cleared up my Sync problem. I disconnected the old PM before removing it, and reconnected following the update. I got one failure, and then several followup successful connections. Thanks for your help.
