Has something changed?
The video in https://twitter.com/vote_leave/status/742759131887456256 works for me. Auto-plays even (annoyingly).

This video plays for me as well without any problems, but still some other videos fail to play in this topic and instead produce the infamous "This browser does not support video playback." message.

I do have to double-click on this video to get it to play (does not "auto-play") probably because of one and/or two of my preference settings below:

I have both the "media.autoplay.enabled" and "media.autoplay.allowscripted" preferences set to "false", one or both of which is why the video does not "auto-play" presumably.

You could try these preference settings to presumably disable "auto-play".

Yup, no problem playing that video.
Maybe Twitter is finally getting the picture that this is a problem :P Not just for us, either.

Okay I've ran across this twitter video that fails to play for me in Pale Moon: https://twitter.com/Lakers/status/750778651176611840/video/1, but does play fine in Firefox (and other browsers).

I get the momentary play button displayed as the page loads like it's going to work then the infamous "This browser does not support video playback" message appears once the page is fully loaded.

Can anyone play this video okay in Pale Moon :?:

My current UA for Twitter.com is: "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:45.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/45.0" and out of desperation I also tried "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/50.0.2661.94 Safari/537.36".

I'm not sure if there's a new suggested workaround for Twitter - I'm finding a lot of videos that won't play ("This browser does not support video playback").

That video is served as m3u8, which has been discussed previously in this thread.

Searching the entire thread for the term "m3u8" results in nothing found for all pages 1-4.

Can you possibly provide additional clarification on this please as to specifics regarding what this means as well as if there might be a workaround and if not then what the anticipated resolution will ultimately be :?: (I ask this in consideration of the fact that the video is functional in the Gecko based FF as well as other browsers :?).

Okay, thanks. I have to say, in regards to my question
Pale Moon Rising wrote:... if there might be a workaround and if not then what the anticipated resolution will ultimately be :?: (I ask this in consideration of the fact that the video is functional in the Gecko based FF as well as other browsers :?).
.... I'm not really sure where Pale Moon stands after reading the other topic. I see references regarding Twitter jumping the gun with "m3u8" implementation and as far as where Pale Moon currently stands at this point I read "we're not there yet" so the assumption is we'll get there. But then reading further there seems to be equivocation as to whether "m3u8" will even get incorporated into Pale Moon based on what seems to a great degree of ambivalence to even go in this direction at all. So I'm frankly a bit confused as to what the ultimate resolution will actually be as far as playing these types of Twitter videos in Pale Moon in the end. :eh:

Absent information to the contrary, I'm going to assume that a Pale Moon release will accommodate these Twitter videos at some point. ;)

Neither do I. What am I missing here? Is there some security reason why videos (or 'playlists') won't play in PM or why the code can't accommodate them? Sorry but just don't understand why every other browser plays them, but not PM.

Echoing others, I'm not sure what the plan is either, though I'd love to know.

Pale Moon is my main browser, and I read Twitter a lot. Without really noticing, I've gone from using Twitter exclusively inside PM, to opening specific tweets with videos in Chrome, to just using Twitter exclusively inside Chrome now. Consequentially, I'm reading a lot of articles I take from links on Twitter in Chrome now, as well...

I'm not suggesting Chrome is going to become my main browser (I loathe it in most ways) as I have hundreds of tabs from other sites open at a time in PM and find it so much more productive, but I will suggest this sort of "drift" is what would lead a more singularly focused (e.g. mostly social media) user to migrate away from PM.

Just upgraded from Pale Moon Version: 26.3.3 (Atom/WinXP) to Version: 26.3.3 (x86) on Windows 7 Home Premium. Do you have any hope that Twit vids will ever play back? …
Sadly my question has been answered. I presume Twitter has made an exclusive deal with Google to drive every other Browser out of business! And Google's attitude is 'My Way or the Highway.' No customization allowed! Plus, Mozilla chose to join the Cabal, but look what it gained them. Twitter excluded them Too!
Replies from senders of these non-playing videos, when they take a moment of their precious time, range from 'I just Retweet these things, I don't create them.' to 'They all play on MY Browser, you must have a poor excuse from one. Get with the program and stop blaming other people for YOUR problems.'

Give Pale Moon v27 alpha a try. Make sure to read all warnings, this is an early version not meant to replace v26. I am guessing v27 will solve this issue.

For those videos that don't work in v26, I use the Open With extension (version 5.6.3.1) to open them with IE or FF portable. Quite handy.

That video works because it is actually delivered like this:

That vmap file has the stream definitions inside:

On the other hand, those that do not work are delivered like this:

https://video.twimg.com/ext_tw_video/75 ... R5lha.m3u8 (content type is "application/x-mpegurl). The contents of that file are:

Code: Select all

#EXTM3U

Now, if we have a look at the contents of one of those files (https://video.twimg.com/ext_tw_video/75 ... H7hlu.m3u8), we get this:

To be fair, this video only works in Firefox for me, it not only fails in PM but also fails to work in Chrome, Opera and IE11. (sort of interesting that it only works in a Mozilla based browser, but not in PM :eh:)

Yes it is a handy little extension, just installed the add-on, very helpful - the extension automatically set itself up for all installed browsers including the four alternate backup browsers I generally never use but sometimes have to use unfortunately. Thanks for the tip. (the tab context menu to simplify opening the webpage in an alternate browser is too cool 8-), works like a charm ;))

^ Follow-up regarding "Open with" extension, I just wish browsers would perform the way they should. For example, I have IE set to open new pages in a new tab in the same window (proof below)...
IE Open tabs setting.png
but for some reason IE doesn't do what it's supposed to do and instead opens a new browser window. What is odd is that the first time I used the extension the page DID open in a new tab in the same window, but since then it's always opening a new browser window ever since (ignoring my settings). I actually have all browsers set to open new pages in a new tab and all other browsers (Firefox, Chrome and Opera) work the way they should and open in a new tab as expected, but of course not IE for some reason. Such is the world of browsers.
