Encrypted.Google wants to open "application/json"

Unread post by Enigma » 2011-09-15, 19:57

I have this window pop up repeatedly whenever I have encrypted.google open:

Is there any way to stop this from constantly popping up? No matter what I do (other than closing encrypted.google), it just keeps popping up, so that there are multiples of this window open.

Does anyone else have this happen?

Thanks

It seems you have some plugin installed adding JavaScript Object Notation to application list. Resolves:

- Uninstall that Plugin
- Go to Option\Applications\*Scroll to - or - search for* json and choose desired auto-action
- you might try http://adallow.wordpress.com/2008/10/13 ... r-browser/
- or http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9476 ... ng-of-json
- or let me google that for you

diNovoM's method is the useful solution, mine are just alternatives.

I am always at war with the Windows Registry, and sometimes a Registry repair scan can solve this issue. Also, spyware scanning, since it's an obtrusive pop-up.

If that can't solve it, a clean install of the browser can fix it. You might need to uninstall with RevoUninstaller with the "Advanced" feature.

True, a reg repair may be in order (actually a format & reinstall of windows is in order...someday in the near future). Unfortunately, Revo's out since the free version is 32 bit only, though I do have COMODO Programs Manager and iobit uninstaller v2 (I was surprised at how much more it finds than a lot of other uninstallers, though I do have to sift through the results more carefully than with revo, but it's free & does 64 bit).

Perhaps you can spot the culprit(s) easier than I can.
Here's a list of my installed add-ons:
(I realize most don't pose a problem, but it can't hurt to list them all)

addblock plus
auto reload
big new tab button 2
certificate watch
change default search engine
creditcardnanny
flashgot
memory fox
new tabs at the end
pale moon status bar
speed dial
toomanytabs
trackmenot

Thanks again

Uhm actually not. At least not me. What i would do in your case: start Pale Moon in Safe Mode. Badly it seems there isn't a link to it (at least on 6.0.2 x64), so you need to make a copy of your Pale Moon Shortcut, add " -safe-mode" so the line should look like (f.e.):

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files\Pale Moon\palemoon.exe" -safe-mode
Here just start in safe mode - don't make something permanent yet, and try again opening encrypted.google. If the result is the same you might want to try such an add-on or other solution i linked in last post. Else, if it disappeared i believe you have to either permanently disable all (Add-Ons and Plug-ins) and activate one-by-one or you do it other way round and disable one-by one.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I may have to try one at a time, we'll see.

The popup seems almost random, it doesn't necessarily pop up as soon as encrypted google is opened, and new ones open now and then, sometimes on right after the other, other times it may be awhile between, or a mix, so it's not it's at set intervals, might have been easier to guess the cause if it was.

Thanks again
