Re: Adblock???
So do you still think that I was paranoid about the release of the Ad block browser and the irrational lack of support of ABP to Palemoon?

Re: Adblock???
It just saddens me that Mr. Palant is being so immature about all this. Just because it's his product and he feels he should defend it (which is perfectly fine) doesn't excuse him from bashing us for doing what was needed in our situation (and protecting our product and users from severe resulting issues).
His product is a Firefox extension - compatibility is simply not guaranteed unless the dev works with us to keep it compatible.
Mr. Palant has chosen not to work with us to have a compatible version for Pale Moon -- quite the opposite, in fact. We, in our maintenance of the blocklist that is used, among other things, to block extensions that cause significant issues, have blocked ABP to keep users from running into well-known issues when it's installed. Nobody but us can make that call, and we won't do something like this unless there are good reasons for it.
If he would have worked with us to retain compatibility for Pale Moon in his Firefox extension, then it would have been a different story. As it is, though, it's simply not compatible, and we've made sure to have a replacement that is compatible in lieu of getting direct support from the ABP authors; a situation that has existed for many months, as Tobin already said. If there was no alternative, then it would have been a tougher call to make.
All this means that there is absolutely no reason left for us not to mark ABP as incompatible (because it is) and block it. The type of block may be a point of contention, since it still works for some people (so far), hence the easing up to become a soft block. But the call had to be made because just allowing it without any indication of an issue would be the irresponsible thing to do - no offense to Mr. Palant, but his remark was topsy-turvy there. This block has been the only responsible answer to the situation at hand, and as said before is the exact same treatment any other extension would have received with similar compatibility and usability issues resulting from its installation.
Mr. Palant may hate us for it and think it's some kind of personal conflict, but he's sorely mistaken in that. This is a technical compatibility issue and nothing more.
This is the last thing I will post about this whole sorry mess. It's already been blown way out of proportion, and nothing else needs to be added.

Re: Adblock???
I think it might be an idea to have the issue of various incompatibilities made clear on http://www.palemoon.org/ before the download link. I know that a lot of people finding PM are likely to be at least a bit tech savvy but word is spreading and I have encountered several users on another board who found the migration tool but had no idea that some stuff may not work.
There is no indication that things won't be exactly the same if you use it.
Or that these forums exist.
Perhaps a link to them should be in the header rather than under Help, lots of people hate clicking Help...

Then they didn't read the boxed, red statement on the page where the migration tool can be found. I can't be any clearer than that.sIDcORK wrote:I have encountered several users on another board who found the migration tool but had no idea that some stuff may not work.

Totally agree. The amount of waste of time and energy on such a non-issue is indeed amazing... one can only admire the patience required by the PM team.x-15a2 wrote:It's just amazing to me that people trust Moonchild (and team) to develop their browser but don't trust (or accepted the educated advise of) the same regarding the use of clearly incompatible extension.

No, this is just hilarious. They can't be serious
If they are, somehow, serious... then let me make it clear that no, we didn't, nor would I ever stand for such anti-competitive behavior!

They should have cared to read a few threads here before making an allegation like that
