Google search problem

Post by noteven47 » 2012-05-05, 15:06

I have just installed Palemoon 12.0 and now cannot use Google (which I had set as my homepage). I am unable to fill anything in to the search box.
Other links in my Bookmarks list work perfectly ok. I can use the little bar at the top RHS of the page next to the address bar but I would prefer to be able to use my homepage as it is intended.
One difference I have noted is that my name appears on the Google page and when I click on that I get an invitation to join Google+ (which I don't want or need). I do not seem to be able to get rid of that.
Using Windows 7 64 bit.

You might want to try "http://www.google.com/ncr" for "no cookie request". Sounds like you are logged in to your Google account and it interferes with your search (possibly it gets bogus search preferences from your account).

Thanks for that. Solved by uninstalling and a fresh install of freshly downloaded PM.

Here is an idea for you:
Rather than use Google, which sets all kinds of cookies and invades your privacy....use:

http://www.startingpage.com

...which sets none, and NO tracking cookies to invade your privacy! :-)

Or you can just switch your preferred search engine in the search box top right to DuckDuckGo - which is just as secure and non-tracking, and is the default search provider in some Linux distros, meaning it's been adopted by the Open Source geeks as being Very TrustworthyTM. I've included the search plugin as an option for a good reason ;)
