Search from address bar

Post by Bifrost » 2015-01-10, 06:59

When I type about:config in the address bar, I cannot get a keyword.URL entry to edit as on other forks of Firefox or Firefox itself. I would like to change the default search engine in the address bar. It shouldn't be this hard.

keyword.URL is no longer a usable preference, since searching from the address bar is linked to whichever search engine you have chosen as active now (in the search bar). This has been the case in Pale Moon 24.0 and later. Firefox (and rebranded rebuilds) also does not support this preference anymore for the same reason since FF23.

Ditto, welcome to the PM forum. Just to add to @dark_moon's post, once you've set your default search engine in the search bar, you can remove the search bar from the navigation toolbar, if you prefer not to have it displayed.

Maybe this addon helps
https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/a ... rd-search/
It allows you to have different default search engine in the address bar independent on what you have in the searchbar, you can still use keywords to switch to other search engines.

Thanks for the greetings and assistance. When I realized I had to to add my engine to the search bar in the newer versions for the address bar search as well, I tried same, but could not add a custom generated Startpage URL. I posted in the "add search engines" section of the tutorial as I thought it more appropriate when I realized you had to go through the search bar. I don't want to mess up your site by posting in two places. I did get a response, but it did not let me do the whole custom URL thing.

Thanks
