If I try clicking on external links in Steam chat or Thunderbird, they don't do anything. I have Pale Moon set as my default browser and I've been trying to dink around in about:config with some browser.link preferences, but nothing works.

Try using the Applications tab in the main Options page in Pale Moon. Or check what Windows defaults to using to open the link/file types. It may be that you have to change a Windows default before you see it in Pale Moon.

Thanks for the tip. Messing around with the defaults fixed it, now I just have to set it up to use a new tab instead of the current tab.
