Add-on compatibility

Post by Edkiefer » 2014-09-11, 15:02

I have been running latest PL 24.7.1 for while and installed 25beta too . Now if i switch between versions I get the popup addon compatibility window for split sec and then PL opens .
Just now I saw 24.7.2 released so i closed PL 25 and then update 24.7.1 to 24.7.2 but the addon compatibility is taking long time, many mins to do anything . I try closing it and sometimes that works it seems but other times it doesn't .
only thing I did today differently is by accident while I was running 25 i started 24.7.1 , it opened fine but w/o session history , only one tab of MSN.com .

I di make backup of profile but figure i ask here first .
Of course once i run same version the addon compatibility doesn't show , I just wonder why its seems to hang now .

Switching back and forth between 24.* and 25.* is not really supported nor recommended. Your extension store file has probably gotten confused as a result. I recommend you restore your profile from backup.

wow ,this is weird, now its working ok .

Maybe running both did something temporary .

Ok, I just have to decide which version to stay with till 25 goes final .

Could just duplicate your profile and have it ask you every time you start one or the other.
How far are you prepared to go? How much are you prepared to risk? How many people are you prepared to sacrifice for victory?
Are you willing to die friendless, alone, deserted by everyone? Because that's what may be required of you in the war that is to come.

Not sure I follow .
you mean change the path of the profile on say the PM25 one , so each has own profile ?

Create a shortcut, with the -P switch added to the .exe line, then start it with Profile Manager and you can create a new profile there. Start it with that shortcut all the time or at least when you want to change profiles. Alternately, you could create a shortcut for each profile with -P profilename.

Thanks for info, wasn't familiar with profile manager and it's switch options , I assume you mean Mozilla profile manager .

Edit: after reading it seems profile manager is built into Firefox , at first I thought I needed to DL the tool/app .
