Can I install both versions?

Can I install both versions, 3.6.30 and 9.2, or will they interfere?

The reason I'm asking is that I've already installed and tried 3.6.30, now I would like to try 9.2 to see what the differences are. That's the only way for me to decide which one to go with. If I can retain my 3.6.30 installation then I will. Otherwise I'll have to uninstall it first, I guess.

Installing the desktop version of 9.2 and switching between both back and forth will lead to issues as your profile (database format, etc.) would be upgraded to 9.2 format the first time you run 9.2, which will cause issues the next time you try to open it again in 3.6.30, and can lead to profile corruption.

I read elsewhere here about your portable 9.2 version and it discusses installation on a flash drive, external drive, or maybe other external devices, but I don't want to use those methods. It doesn't mention installation into an ordinary folder on an internal drive, or maybe I overlooked it [my wee brain is overloaded]. In any case, I don't know if that's possible. Without that info predefined, I'm afraid it might mess with the root of the drive, the registry, etc.

My only prior experience with portable apps is from portableapps.com. I have several of their portable browsers installed, including several portable Firefox versions. They recommend *not* installing into the c:\Program Files system folder, and suggest making a new folder c:\portableapps for that purpose - which is how I do it. Then if I want to get rid of one of their portable apps, I can simply delete its folder and presto, it's gone - clean. Uninstallation is not required. They don't mess with the registry, root of the drive, etc.

Can I do the same with your portable 9.2 app, and does it behave the same as theirs?

It behaves the same - You click the exe you download of the portable, and it will ask for a folder to extract to (e.g. c:\palemoon-portable ). This can be on a stick or on your hard drive. It makes no difference, as long as it's a writable medium. Removal is similarly easy: simply remove the folder you extracted the portable browser to, and everything is gone.

9.2-x64: 64-bit version of the launcher and browser for x64 Windows. Keep in mind that the same restrictions apply to this as to the desktop 64-bit version with regard to availability of media plug-ins, etc.

I let that one slip thru, betraying my grammarian nature. I believe in explicity, avoidance of ambiguity, simplicity, economy, and super-clarity of expression. It's not as easy as it seems. Hemingway had to do many many rewrites.

The only mention of portable is at the top of that long page. By the time I scroll down aways, it's no longer visible, and I've already forgotten what I saw before. Then it only says 9.2:, and explains that it updates former versions, etc. That sounds like a regular version, not a portable one. There would be no confusion if the bold header right above the list of download links said 9.2_portable, i.e. if that title was not abbreviated/shortened as "9.2".
