Norton Antivirus v19.5.0.145 breaks Pale Moon 9.2, reporting freebl3.dll as quarantined with threat Suspicious.Cloud.7.F. Threat type is reported as "Heuristic Virus. Detection of a threat based on malware heuristics."
Broken Pale Moon 9.2 opens to blank screen. After restoration of freebl3.dll from quarantine, Palemoon 9.2 opens home page properly.
This is a 'heads up' for anyone who might see this again. This problem was reported as a 'false positive' for Pale Moon 9.0.1 and appears to be, once again, a 'false positive' for Pale Moon 9.2.

The only thing you can do is report this (yet again!) as a false positive to Symantec. https://submit.symantec.com/false_positiveJELittleton wrote:Norton Antivirus v19.5.0.145 breaks Palemoon 9.2, reporting freebl3.dll as quarantined with threat Suspicious.Cloud.7.F. I'm sorry but this is not the first time it trips over that particular dll - their heuristics engine remains horribly broken. I suggest you move away from Norton AV and use a more functional antivirus package.

Re: Pale Moon 9.2 and 3.6.30 release
I'm on my backup XP machine and I have the free Avast version running on it as my antivirus. I updated PM v9.1 to PM v9.2 today without any problems.
Now, on my main Windows 7 computer, since it come from Hewlett-Packard, it comes pre-loaded with Norton Antivirus. The last time I went from PM v8 to PM v9, I had the same problem as Symantec killed the update to PM v9. It took Symantec 3 days to fix their false positive for PM.
I had no problem updating from PM v9.0 to (PM v9.1) on my Windows 7 computer because I waited 5 days before updating to (v9.1). Since it takes Symantec about 3 days to fix their false positive virus PM error and get their signatures updated, I plan to update my Windows 7 computer to PM v9.2 this upcoming Sunday. I figure I'll be safe by then.

Re: Pale Moon 9.2 and 3.6.30 release
Norton Internet Security 2012 likes to automatically kill my Pale Moon browser update everytime on my Windows 7, 64 bit machine so I have to wait anywhere between 3-5 days before Symantec fixes the false positive in their signatures. Had enough of that and started looking at alternatives to Norton.
With the above said, I'm trying a new combination on my backup XP computer. I was running the free Avast AV with the Windows Firewall. Never had any problems updating Pale Moon on my XP computer.
Today, on my XP computer, I disabled the Windows firewall and downloaded the free Comodo Firewall which comes with a sandbox and something called Defense +. Since both Avast and Comodo have a sandbox, I disabled the Avast sandbox, enabled the Comodo sandbox and started playing with some programs. When Comodo encountered Pale Moon, it alerted me so I allowed it and told Comodo to always remember my choice. Pale Moon played and the Comodo firewall, so far, is giving me no problems with the normal places I go everyday.
If the Comodo firewall doesn't give me any problems on my XP computer between now and Saturday night, I'm going to uninstall Norton Internet Security 2012 on my Windows 7, 64-bit computer this upcoming Sunday. Then I'm going to put the the free version of Avast AV on it, disable the Avast sandbox and then put the free Comodo firewall on it and enable the Comodo sandbox and enable Defense +.
This combination shouldn't cause me any problems on my Windows 7 computer (I hope) and I won't have to wait 3-5 days to update Pale Moon like I have to now with Norton.

Right, on the same scenario, people have problems with avast! and Pale Moon, as well, but I do not.rabnbeinn wrote:I have Norton Internet Security v18.7.0.13 and I updated to PM 9.2 without any difficulties at all.

Re: Norton Antivirus / Internet Security and Pale Moon 9.2
Well, I went into a lot of risky sites to fully test the free version of the stand alone Comodo Firewall and the free version of Avast antivirus on my backup Windows XP computer. No viruses, trojans, rootkits or keyloggers were able to install themselves on my Windows XP computer. Comodo Firewall and Avast blocked everything. This convinced me to put the free Comodo Firewall and free Avast antivirus on my main Windows 7, 64- bit computer.
So, on my Windows 7, 64 bit computer, I uninstalled Norton Internet Security 2012 by using the Norton Removal Tool.
I then installed the latest free version of Avast antivirus and disabled it's Sandbox component. Then I installed the latest free version of Comodo Firewall and enabled it's Sandbox component since some people said the sandbox on Avast was a little weak while Comodo Firewall's sandbox was much better.
First thing I did was update Pale Moon from version 9.1 to 9.2 and experienced no problems in doing so.
BTW, here's an oddity. When I had Norton on my Windows 7 computer, Firefox ran faster than Pale Moon. Now, with Avast and Comodo Firewall on my Windows 7 computer, Pale Moon runs faster than Firefox.
