No sound only in Pale Moon

Post by putifer » 2011-12-14, 17:29

As the title suggests, I have no sound in Pale Moon browser...
I tried other browsers and they work fine.
I also tried on another account on my PC and it worked there...
This happened a few weeks before and I created a new account so I can keep Pale Moon but now this problem occurred again.
I have Windows 7 (and it's not from the sound mixer, I checked there...).

Just a quick check: try right-clicking the Pale Moon shortcut and select "run as Administrator", does the sound work?

Ok, it was worth a try, sometimes the W7 settings are a little odd.

How about some more info:

What security software is installed?
W7 is x86 or x64?
Any Registry 'cleaners' used?
Has the sound ever worked with Pale Moon?

I have Avira (I tried turning it off-no effect)
I guess it's x86 ("Program files x86")
Yes, I used it today but after it stopped working...(TuneUp Utilities)
And of course I had sound before or else I wouldn't have even considered using it...:)

It must be 64-bit if you have Program files x86.
So today was the only time you've used any registry 'cleaner'?

Have you updated your flash recently? There appears to have been some problems reported with a recent version, you'' need to download and install the activeX version for IE and the plugins version for non-IE browsers. The 64-bit versions should now install the 32-bit versions as well. http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ choose W7 64-bit then download both versions, close all browsers before installing is probably best.

I installed the two flash versions but there's no change...

It might help if you carefully work your way through the Firefox help page for this issue: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Vid ... not%20play

Can you list the Add-ons in Pale Moon, please?

Yes, I had a similar situation where a game's audio wouldn't work.

I believe that using a Registry Cleaner repeatedly, sometimes even one time can cause this, but it tends to remove some clean traces. I am not sure if your program tells you what is "Safe" or "Unsafe" to delete, so this leaves me wondering what caused the issue. (It's possible that the sound wasn't directing anywhere and TU thought that it was okay to remove it.) You might want to restore from the Registry backup on that program.

My only solution for my game was to swallow my pride and restart Windows, which fixed the problem. You can also try to Uninstall with RevoUninstaller, under the "Advanced Mode," and it will get rid of any traces of Pale Moon that impede the audio to work.(Just for the record, it's a problem with Windows but it's tied to PM on the error)

This is just scratching the surface but I can't go any deeper, I am afraid that I am not that advanced. :)
