Can I copy my html bookmarks file from Seamonkey = Pale Moon

Post by Libra » 2011-12-07, 15:44

I have a new laptop (Windows 7 64 bit) which I haven't activated yet and two desktop computers: Vista sp2 and Windows 7 64 bit sp1.

Both desktops have Seamonkey 2.0.14 and IE8. Can I put Seamonkey's bookmarks onto Pale Moon? Also, what version of Pale Moon should I use? Also, can leave Seamonkey installed and also install Pale Moon? What is the web installer mentioned with the download link?

The laptop has a AMD cpu E450.

Vista Intel Core 2 Duo processor E7400

Windows 7 64 bit desktop has cpu AMD Anthon II x 2 215.

I haven't installed anything 64 bit in the 7 desktop.

I am running Avast free 6.0.1289 on both desktops. I have downloaded Avast 6.0.1367 for the laptop.

Thank you.

Sincerely, Libra

I also have Windows 7, 64-bit. My anti-virus is Norton Internet Security 2012.

I have the following browsers installed and use on my computer:

1) Pale Moon v8 (32-bit)
2) Firefox v8 (32-bit)
3) SeaMonkey v2.0.14
4) IE 8

No problems with any browser running side by side. I've run all four browsers at the same time too.

Lots of questions, some already answered by the ever-helpful Night Wing :)

What is left: the main question of importing bookmarks:
In SeaMonkey, export the bookmarks as HTML (you can do this from the "library" accessed by the menu choice "organize bookmarks". Safe this html file somewhere easy to reach (e.g. "My Documents")
In Pale Moon, you go to the same library window from the menu by going to Organize Bookmarks, click "Import and backup" at the top, then "Import bookmarks from HTML"

Then "What is the web installer?":
This is a small program that scans your system's capabilities and will list available versions of the browser for your particular system. You can then have it automatically download and run the Pale Moon installer. It's provided for a simple and easy way to get the correct version of Pale Moon without having to manually check the system requirements.

Pale Moon v8 is recommended for your systems. 3.6 is only recommended for old hardware, systems with particularly low resources, and some laptops with (very) poor integrated graphics.

I am a little skeptical when I saw the E-450.

It ranks lower than my weak processor Ql-64, and Pale Moon 8 runs fine for me, just don't overload it with tabs.
Then again, the ranking can be wrong because the newer versions can have better architectures to handle what the older processors couldn't.

Overall, it's a hit-and-miss, you have to try it out. Also, the video chip that comes with the E-450 (HD 6310) surpasses my HD 3100, so you should be fine on graphics. I am sure the Llano architecture supports the processor through the video processing, so you are good to go.

(Bit of contradiction on my end, so you have to try it out)

ATI HD63xx will have NO issues with Pale Moon 8, I know that much. :)
the AMD APUs are really nice bits of hardware, actually. They support DX11, even. with the 450 GPU running at 600 MHz as well, it's got a nice bit of oomph for a 20W processor.
