Please Help Me It Is Soooo... Slow

Post by Bigo2 » 2026-07-28, 05:40

Hi I'm using the latest version of PaleMoon 34.3.1. Often I have open many tabs, sometimes 40 even more, however I installed an add-on which is unloading the tabs so they are not taking much of memory...
Even though the PaleMoon is still so slow! E.g. when I'm searching products on Amazon, or writing comment on YouTube, it is slow even to follow my amateurish keyboard typing.
Is there enything I can do to improve it? Should something be cleaned?
When I try the same and load many Tabs to Firefox, Vivaldi or Brave it is such an incredible difference, unbelievable, they still work like the grease lightnin'.
But... even though I still love the PaleMoon the most.
I have some add-ons on it, but even if I start the PaleMoon in safe mode it the same - slow horribly slow...
I'm sure the PaleMoon is not designed to be slow, so what is it? Help me please I like PaleMoon and I want to keep it!

Why are you using two ad blockers that both do the same thing? That's the first thing that jumps out at me. I don't know if that would slow you down, but it seems like it could.

Pale Moon doesn't seem slow to me, but then again I don't try to leave comments on youtube - maybe Pale Moon is particularly slow at that for some reason? I don't have problems with Amazon.

As andyprough said, only use one content-blocker (preferably https://addons.palemoon.org/search/?terms=ublock ..In fact, the two shown are the only two that can work together because they were originally built by the same person with that in mind) or they might interfere with each-other.

Now, google is known for highly bloating their sites and heavily discouraging usage of other browsers. It can be mitigated, but will never be as "fast" as using google chrome/ium & reskins. That said, it is usable with Pale Moon if one has some patience. Not much is needed, just a second here or there. I myself use Youtube daily. Only use one active Youtube page at a time though. Install the Suspender addon and set to open new tabs as inactive (and open them with the middle-mouse button).

Thank you gentleman, I was afraid that the add-ons could be the problem, but I tried the safe mode and couldn't see any difference so I thought they are OK. Immediatley I'm going to remove those and thank you Gemmaugr for the link to some good one.
Andyprough, mentioning commenting on YouTube was just an example - I don't send there very often...

Also, you might be able to view 20-30+ vids in a row, or only 2-3 before a lagginess hits, but just Right-Click active tab, Bookmark All Tabs, Close Other Tabs, and Restart. Done in 3 seconds or so.

Don't use Amazon, but for Youtube you should use some Chromium instead.The problem is their Javascript.

Bar Tab Tycho also isn't the best for current Pale Moon versions as it was made for a much older milestone and code base.
I suggest using "Suspender" instead. https://addons.palemoon.org/addon/suspender/

Perhaps the recent multi-process experimentation on Basilisk could be tested with this use-case. Since it's supposed to improve performance.

I use this addon to improve the performance of YouTube: muTube https://realityripple.com/Software/XUL/muTube/

Then several Greasemonkey scripts to make the mobile version more usable:
YouTube Mobile Background Playback https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/52558 ... ox-android
YouTube Automix Remover https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/53911 ... ix-remover
Auto Disable AutoPlay https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/48027 ... e-autoplay

URL rewriter rules to use lightweight versions of popular websites:
reddit.com -> old.reddit.com
x.com -> xcancel.com
wikipedia -> ?useskin=monobook

Hope this is helpful.

x.com -> xcancel.com
xunroll.com is a better place to redirect than yet another Nitter instance - combines threads into one long readable page, and if there's only one post then shows it normally.
