ya thats not happening. the new browser versions are a slide show of lag.
Seems its not PM specific, chrome wont play them either.
Maybe X required DRM now or something. Are they playing for you?

Then I'm afraid we can't provide much support. Read the release notes -- a lot has changed in recent versions to improve web compatibility on many sites.

I haven't updated yet, but using https://xcancel.com/visegrad24/status/2 ... 3481238846 the video plays for me. Since it's the same backend, it should be the same video/format/etc, right?

Just updated to v34.3.0.1. The video doesn't play. I get this: "Video could not be played." accompanied with a Reload button. Hitting the Reload button presents a video screen with the constant "Loading" swirly.

The video plays fine in Firefox 115.36.0esr.

application/x-mpegurl appears related to HLS support from what I've gathered. It seems like Firefox simply supports HLS via something called Media Source Extensions, though apparently it is possible in theory to have native HLS support (which apparently Safari does).

I have yet to look into where our support for those two things is currently, but I think that's related.

In that case it's not a Pale Moon problem. You may be blocking things needed for X videos.

A playlist is not a video format. If they want to use playlists they should be using a JS framework to call into mediasource.

Right, that's because the only browser that actually implements native HLS support is Safari, I think. And maybe Firefox on mobile. I think all the others including both Chrome and us go through MSE? It's kind of odd it's trying to use the Safari behavior by default, though... usually websites only fallback to that when using MSE fails.

No, the video uses the image as a "poster" (still image placeholder when the video isn't playing) in that attribute of it.
Then it actually gives the source of the video to play in the <source> tag within the <video> tag.
The "on the fly" transcoding on the server side to webp is something some platforms do. the server-side is a jpg, but you are being served a webp with the appropriate content-type server header.
Pretty much all of that is done server-side, not your front-end side.

Thanks. I wrote it a bit iffy, but that's essentially what I meant, yeah.

I guess the only question left is why I can play the vids and get an MP4 vid while others can't play the vid and get x-mpegurl?

(or is that another implied and obvious answer? Last question, I swear, then I'll drop it. Just curious)

Ok so its not a palemoon problem then. X has done something and both my browsers wont play any video on X now.
I'd just like to confim that.
