33.8.2 right-click context menus not dismissing?

If I right-click on a web page (any page) it will drop-down a context menu. But it will only dismiss the menu if I click one of the items on it OR press Esc.

This does not seem right. If I drop a context menu down on any other application and click elsewhere the app dismisses the menu.

Is there a setting somewhere that controls a context menu being persistent like this? I'd like to disable this and resume having expected context menu behavior.

Steps to repeat, using PM open www.google.com, right-click anywhere on the loaded page. Now right-click anywhere else on the screen (in PM or not). The context menu won't go away.

Do the same thing in any other browser. Right-clicking anywhere else in the webpage dismisses the previous context-menu drop-down.

How do I make PM automatically dismiss these?

I should add that upgrading from 33.8.2 to the latest 34.2.2 did not change this.

Aha!

Apparently having ui.popup.disable_autohide set true causes this?

Setting ui.popup.disable_autohide to false resumes normal context menu behavior?

I only found this by working through about:config and looking for non-default settings.

Stfw shows this happens in other browsers as well. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=ui.popup.disa ... 2-1&ia=web

I don't know what managed to change this setting, but returning it to the default false value returns right-click context menu behavior to it's expected action.

I'm sure the first thing you are going to be told is to update to the current version, 34.2.2, and see if the problem still exists.

FTR, I have never experienced this problem with any PM version.

I agree with Ron saying you need to update to version 34.2.2 because your version is very old and things do change in Pale Moon from version to version. Some are slight changes and sometimes the changes are greater.

Back on point.

I followed your directions using Google as the example you gave. My context window does go away on the second right click. And I am using at the time of this post 64 bit (GTK2) linux Pale Moon 34.2.2 running in 64 bit MX Linux 25.1 (Infinity) Xfce.

And this also works in my other two 64 bit browsers, linux Waterfox 6.6.12 and linux Firefox (150.0.1). Since you didn't list your troubleshooting information, an extension might be the cause. Just a guess on my part.
MX Linux 25.1 (Infinity) Xfce w/Pale Moon, Waterfox, Firefox
Linux Debian 13.4 (Trixie) Xfce w/Pale Moon, Waterfox, Firefox

Agreed with Night Wing that you should really post your troubleshooting info (and update PM).

I can also add that it works fine on my Win 10 (same as OP) 64-bit version of latest Pale Moon.

It seems the setting ui.popup.disable_autohide is used to debug certain extensions or UI dialog boxes with the devtools. I'm not entirely sure if there are extensions that change this preference but it's not a good idea to do this; it's intended only for developers who are aware of this preference and what it does.
