Bookmarks domain redirect

Post by billmcct » 2025-11-22, 17:04

Operating system: Win 10
Browser version: Latest
32-bit or 64-bit browser?: 64

Ok guys, one of my daily websites has changed its domain from *.mx to *.lt.
I have about 2000 bookmarks with the domain *.mx.
I need a script or something to redirect to *.lt.
Trying to do this manually would take forever.
TIA Bill

Ctrl+Shift+B > Import and Backup > Backup...

Open saved file (bookmarks-2025-11-22.json) in any text editor which supports "Replace" (Find: .mx, Replace: .lt).

Ctrl+Shift+B > Import and Backup > Restore > Choose File...

Curiosity: never used Backup/Restore used sometimes Export/Import to get bookmark subsets from other machines and I have a vague recall that import does not respect subdirectory structures but handles bookarks in a flat structure. Is Backup/Restore better in this ?

Yes, but Backup/Restore is all or nothing, you can't Backup/Restore a subset of bookmarks.

Your correct, after a restore, I have always had to restructure all my folders on the Bookmarks toolbar.
I haven't been able to use "Import Bookmarks from HTML" for many years.

A long time ago, I 've made an add-on that has the option to save subsets (folders) of bookmarks and preserves their structure.

This add-on has many other options - see some of them in the screenshots below:

I assume from the screenshot it is called Bookmarks Manager. I can't find it in the PM repository.
(Not that I'm currently interested in it, moving subset of bookmarks from one machine to another was an occasional activity in the past)
