PM getting slow on Windows 7 ?

Post by Zorba » 2025-11-22, 13:05

Operating system: W7
Browser version: 33.9.1
32-bit or 64-bit browser?: 64

General browsing (e.g. BBC) and entering things in fields (e.g. Ebay) seems very slow these days. It's better on W10. I tried disabling all Add-ons. Is W7 getting problematic? Thanks

Please include the troubleshooting information asked; the template is there for a reason. If the hardware of your Windows 7 box is different from the one in Windows 10 that might be a factor. Also make sure your Windows 7 has SP1 installed if not already.

In a fresh profile typing in the search field of Ebay doesn't seem laggy to me, though I do have a beefy laptop (processor and main GPU used being the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H) and I'm using Windows 11 (I don't have a Win7 computer to test with).

Here's the error console output for ebay browsing:

Re: PM getting slow on Windows 7 ?

Post by Fenchelina » 2025-11-25, 21:26

I just checked the forum because recently I've been having a similar problem (Windows 7 SP1 Professional 64-bit, latest ESU updates): Palemoon seems to respond slowly at times, but I can't pinpoint it to specific websites.
Scrolling in particular stutters, sometimes pages load unusually slowly, and when a tab is closed, it takes several seconds for the remaining tabs to move closer together.

However – since other PC operations (Explorer) also seem to be running unevenly – I also suspect my virus scanner (Avast).
In addition, in the Windows Event Viewer Schannel error 40 (ID 36887) occurs intermittently (not always, but when it does, it's about every 3 minutes).
Perhaps there are some similarities to your system?

In any case, something has not been right for a few days now. :problem:

Using a driver that old is likely crippling your experience. I know finding Intel HD drivers can be a bit of a chore but using a 13 year old driver is generally a bad idea.

I have a more recent driver (2017, Intel discontinued its support for Windows 7 very early on), but I'm still having problems.
Description: Intel(R) HD Graphics 530
Vendor ID: 0x8086

It would also not explain why such errors occur overnight.
As I said, I think it's possible that the cause lies outside Palemoon. Perhaps Zorba can tell us whether he also uses the Avast virus scanner.

If it happened overnight and unrelated to a Pale Moon update, then it is indeed likely that the problem lies outside of Pale Moon

I don't use anti-virus software other than Windows Defender for regular scans. Also other browsers are not slow on the same machine. Something is getting PM tied in a knot on most websites...

I was also experiencing (most of the time) A Lagging response from PM and mouse pointer lagging also-when only using PM-
However I took the chance just yesterday and updated to the most recent version of PM 33.9.1 and it seems to have fixed all my issues; NO more lags or freezing whatsoever.
Running Windows 7 pro.
Worked for me ezpz :D And snappy peppy again.

Here is a most recent version of driver for Intel HD 530: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... 15-45.html

Btw, I'm using Windows 7 Pro as well.

Off-topic:
Driver for Intel HD Graphics 530, final last Version 15.45 ... What do I read there?
Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows* [15.45] Purpose: This is a security release
Note: Intel® Graphics driver for Windows* version 15.40/45.x.x has known security issues. ... Intel recommends that users discontinue use as soon as possible.
So why update? Never touch a running system. And: Life is always life-threatening.
Since yesterday, Palemoon has been running normally again for me. I have no idea what caused the sluggishness. Perhaps a problematic entry in an Adblock filter list?
