Status bar not displaying the hovered URL link as before
Operating system: Windows 7
Browser version: 33.9.1
32-bit or 64-bit browser?: 32-bit
There is probably a (preference) setting that needs to be set (perhaps in about:config) that has changed in my case.
This is working (as expected) in Windows 10 (see below):

If you mouse over a link, the address should be in the status bar, not the operating system's taskbar.

Re: Taskbar not displaying the hovered URL link as before
The screen-shots are of the Pale Moon Status bar (not of the Windows "Task Bar", which I think you are incorrectly referencing).
As a result of this setting to display the browser "Status Bar":

Re: Taskbar not displaying the hovered URL link as before
For the current version of Pale Moon:
Go to the configuration editor by typing "about:config" in the address bar and pressing Enter - CHECK
Find the parameter "status4evar.firstRun" and double-click it to toggle the value until it is set to "true" - CHECK
set Completely exit and restart the browser (Either File -> Exit or the blue Pale Moon button -> Exit) - CHECK This will re-initialize and reinstate your status bar functionality.
after starting browser again: The parameter is back to 'FALSE' - and of course, Status Bar still not functioning as expected.
I'm checking the setting to ensure it is set to 'true' - before exiting the browser.
Keeping in mind:
Operating system: Windows 7
Browser version: 33.9.1
32-bit or 64-bit browser?: 32-bit
Are any of these conditions possibly causing the procedure to fail?

Re: Taskbar not displaying the hovered URL link as before
The steps in the example posted isn't solving the PM Status Bar issue, presumably because setting the parameter to 'true' in about:config doesn't hold. After processing each step and confirming that the parameter is in fact set to 'true' (before exiting PM as illustrated in the former screen-shots) and then - after starting PM again I find each time the specific setting has reverted back to 'false'. (tried this 8-10 times now).
I'm using the current PM release.
using 32-bit PM on Windows 7
In case any of the above info might matter.
Can all of this be confirmed (i.e. the param setting does not persist) for current version 32-bit PM on Win7.
EDIT: SEE CONCLUSION BELOW

Re: Taskbar not displaying the hovered URL link as before
It has occurred to me that perhaps the parameter (status4evar.firstRun) sets itself to 'false' after doing the steps mentioned which is what it is expected to do
- however taking the steps mentioned; does its thing (by way of toggling the parameter value to 'true' and exiting and starting PM) by addressing the PM Status Bar issue discussed here.
So I checked - and yep, just as I thought! - my Win10 (that has no problem with the PM Status Bar) has the value for the parameter (status4evar.firstRun) set to 'false' (and would explain the 'firstRun' reference in the parameter as it's a one-time "first run" with the value 'true' that then toggles to "false" after the "first run" as a result of starting the browser (w/ the value set to 'true' at that time).
So my epiphany is apparently correct in as much as the parameter changes its value from 'true' to 'false' after doing the last step of starting the browser - hence, it is to be expected that the parameter value be "false" (via the process to fix the PM Status Bar glitch)...
hmm... so this doesn't look good at all - it would appear that in my case on Win7 using the most current PM release the process is not doing what it is expected to do leaving us in a quandary as to what to do now to solve the problem.

Check your status bar preferences. From the appmenu button on the top left navigate to Preferences => Status Bar Preferences

Re: Taskbar not displaying the hovered URL link as before
That was it! - all fixed.
(Just setting those two options to "Status Bar" did the trick)
The problem was probably because these two settings were set to "Location Bar" instead of "Status Bar" (which is what I wanted and is what my Win10 machine has that works fine - now that I know what to look for...).
And this is probably why I had just observed this (about 10 minutes before your post): Presumably "Location Bar" equals "Address Bar" location.
Thanks so much!

Re: Taskbar not displaying the hovered URL link as before
Yeah, my response was for the most common situation of "my status bar stopped working, help". And yes, the "firstrun" will reset itself after restart.
Glad you noticed the misconfiguration and fixed it - it would have been my next suggestion but clearly I have very little time at the moment
