I can't really help you with the start.me configuration, but if it didn't show your customizations then please double-check that you are logged into your start.me account.
If you continue having issues with that, please write to start.me support; they will be able to help you with your customized start page/account.

As for the display of websites, by the looks of it your changed the preference for loading of images to "Originating server only" which blocks the loading of images from 3rd party hosts. In the current day and age of websites using widely distributed third parties like CDNs for hosting essential website images, this is likely what broke the display.
Please check preferences -> content -> Load Images (drop-down). For normal operation this should be set to "Automatic".

Your instruction also leads me to create exceptions to "Block Pop-ups" for those pages that have become inaccessible to me. Hooray, huzzah, and Hallelujah! I can access my email again. (I guess that's a good thing.)
